Splinterlands Rebellion - A Chapter Of Hope And Choices
The Rebellion is here! The latest Splinterlands set went live on the 5th of December and we can play with the new cards! There are an infinite way to use them, and new winning tactics are tried every second.
New deadly units, beefy tanks with record-breaking health, pirates, dual-element summoners and chaos... an insane amount of chaos! It's hard to say which addition brought more excitement but here's a tl;dr:
💥 All packs purchased during the presale can be opened
💥 All of the new cards and mechanics are already added to the game
💥 The Untamed set has been rotated out of Modern format
💥 The players are able to claim their rewards from the Rebellion presale.
💥 The general sale of Rebellion booster packs has begun.
💥 There will be a total of 9.5M Rebellion packs available during the general sale.
💥 Conflicts will go live soon, staking unopened Rebellion packs and cards to earn airdrop rewards.
Everything changed, as the Rebellion started a tidal wave! The survivors are gathering their forces and the conflict will escalate! The general sale is now live and the players are rushing to get a slice of the cake.
Each Rebellion pack contains five cards, with at least one guaranteed rare card. I am a poor battle mage, one of those that will pick small tasks for an extra coin, and all that I could afford during the pre-sale was two packs!
The standard price per pack was 5000 DEC, but I was able to spend VOUCHER tokens in order to receive a discount on the base price. Each VOUCHER token used reduced the price by 200 Credits / DEC and the maximum discount available using VOUCHER tokens will be 20%.
Half million packs were sold already, with 50,846 bonus packs distributed. I bought two packs in the pre-sale and ended up 1392 in the leaderboard. My plan (and hopes) are to buy at least 2 more packs and cheap cards from the market.
Buying 10 packs would have given a 100% chance for the Grimbardun Smith Neutral Rare card and 10% chance of receiving the new Mantaroth Neutral Legendary card! I had only two claims from the packs I bought ... and that wasn't enough to win bonus card.
Must say I was disappointed, even if the odds were low anyway. I hoped for one Grimbardun Smith card, as 20% was not that low. The odds were against me but hopefully I will be more lucky during conflicts.
The Rebellion set added four new unit abilities: Armored Strike, Corrosive Ward, Flank, and Lookout. he new abilities will enhance certain elements, making the team's synergy more... deadly!
Armored Strike - The units with this ability will gain an ADDITIONAL Melee attack using the Armor stats
Corrosive Ward - For me this is Acid Thornes and the nemesis to Repair! You can't Repair something that's been melted into acidic goo! When the unit with this ability is hit by melee attack, will do 2 damage to the attacker's Armor AND will also reduce the max Armor of the attacker by 2.
Flank - If the unit with this ability is in the first position, then the unit in the second position gains the Reach ability. Imagine the synergy created by this new ability, making the first two units work together to bring down the enemy tank
Lookout - Say Hello! to scouts that shield your support units! The card with this ability will help adjacent allies to take one less damage from Sneak, Snipe, and Opportunity attacks.
What are "conflicts"? The Splinterlands team revamped the old airdrop system to a new and improved mechanism where only eligible players will get airdrops. The new system was called conflicts, to vibe with the rebellion theme, and it will only count players who stake their packs.
It doesn't matter how many Rebellion packs a o player had bought, if they are not staked. The Conflict page is still locked, but the first one is planned for December. Get your packs ready for staking!
The dual-element summoners, summoner tactics and new unit abilities are bringing a chaotic twist. The dual element summoners will allow the summoning from two elements on the same team. Also, the Rebellion Summoners will also feature a new mechanic called Summoner Tactics, where players can choose between two sets of buffs or debuffs after both players reveal their teams.
I was looking forward to see the new Summoner Tactics, and chosen Avina of the Wolf. She could give heal to one unit or plus two speed to two of the fighters.
Got the Ulundine Overseer as a tank and granted him Heal! This is the new All-Time High when it comes to health! He is now the beefiest unit in the game, with 17 health at maximal level and 10 armor points. Bring the big guns as this guy is ready to protect his team! He has the Flank ability from level one, giving the Reach ability to the unit in the second position!
The Overseer can turn a second position melee powerhouse into a destroyer, shredding apart your opponent’s tank. Maybe use Weapons Training to grant melee attack to this absolute unite and transform the weighty enforcers into slayers! The Ulund are massive, with the earth trembling when leading the charge. However, their physical efforts largely consists of simply standing firm and to create an impenetrable barrier!
I didn't expected much from my first Rebellion battle, and I tried to make a competitive team. The battle-rules were tricky, with Earthquake and Keep Your Distance making a weird combo. Melee monsters couldn't be used, and all non flying units would receive two damage at the end of each round!
Avina of the Wolf: Heal given to tank
Ulundin Overseer
Venari Marksrat: Ranged with Martyr
Pelacor Conjurer: Flying
Evangelist: Ranged with Snare
War Pegasus: Ranged with Flying and Shatter
The team was created to last, as the beefy tank could heal himself. The Evangelist will snare flying enemies, while the War Pegasus will shatter their armor and deal deadly damage.
Was a good plan on the paper, but not that good when facing an army of magical creatures. Their spell damage was boosted by Obsidian, and my hungry hippo wasn't ready for a shower of magic arrows. He was down before I blinked! The Venari Marksrat was next, and his martyr boosted the Pelacor Conjurer.
The earthquake his the majority of the monsters, and the Pelacor Conjurer fell from the first wave of spells. The War Pegasus was left alone, to frail to be a danger. See the full battle here!
