The Splinterlands online collectible card game on Hive is currently the only play2earn Dapp that survived the purge. I stopped playing everything else, due to various reasons. Cards are ready to be unwrapped from packs or to be bought through third-party online marketplaces.

Why is Splinterlands special? Blockchain technology helps players to own their cards as non-fungible tokens. The battle mages will use their deck to battle others and earn rewards. The game keep raising the standards when it comes to blockchain gaming.

The play2earn game on Hive keeps growing bigger and bigger with each expansion. The Rebellion went live at the start of December, with all the new cards available for play.  I want to share the packs I bought, those I opened and the cards I found inside! Let's make it both festive and social!

The Social Media Challenge is one of the best ways to try new tactics, learn from other battle mages and earn some crypto! This week we prepared  showcase strategic prowess and epic encounters!

I want to share my favorite battle moments, with the most epic and surprising fights so far. Get ready for unique battle tactics, strategies, or innovative card combinations that have worked well for me! Are you ready to be entertained?

I present you the top five battles I had ... or at least the top five battles I can remember! Some got into the leaderboard by outcome, other by tactics... while some by pure luck! This is why the best so far ... has mushrooms and a lot of random!

Number One: The Mushroom That Lived To Tell The Story!

This is the number one win because was so random... and against all odds! This is the story of the mushroom that lived to tell the story! Battling a golden foil Djinn Muriat is an insane challange... winning against a golden foil Djinn Muriat is science fiction!

But against all odds... a small fungus creature managed the unbeliveble! This is how this little funguy stayed alive when everyone thought it dead!

Obsidian: +1 Magic Power to friendly casters

Legionnaire Alvar: Melee with Void Armor

Madcap Magus: Caster with Life Leech and Scattershot

Legionnaire Alvar got cripple with every attack the suffered, and his insane armor stats were almost useless against all those magical creatures. Even if the spells where hitting his armor, his health was getting lower and lower.

Meanwhile, the Madcap Magus was gathering strenght and health! No one could predict what was yet to come!

Alvar was facing his demise with honor, and it was half-way through the fourth round when Muriat delivered the deadly blow! The Madcap Magus has turned into a lonely tank, and was ready for a battle that will be told for eons.

One magical mushroom against an all-mighty djinn and his lapdogs, the Cursed Slimeball and the Life Sapper. It looked like a flawless victory for my opponent .... but there's always luck and random.

The Madcap Magus was standing alone, with four health and a little armor... while the enemies were laughing! He could take down Djinn Muriat... maybe... but what about the others?

The Life Sapper shot and crippled the Magus, but he retaliated and sent Muriat into the void. It still looked fair and square right now... but the battle was far from over!

The Cursed Slimeball had it's turn, dealing damage and crippling the Magus... again! The Madcap was mad indeed... and his spelll ignored the Slimeball armor. The deadly blow and life leech led to a one v one duel with the Life Sapper, which was already on six health!

And now was the moment that the bards sung about for generations! The beggining of the end for the Life Sapper, and how a little mushroom turned the tides of the battle in his favor through perpetual Life Leech. You will say that the Sapper has this ability as well, plus Cripple on top of that, but this is how legends are born.

What happened next is both suprprising and poetical, as the Madcap Magus supperior damage would slowly bring the Sapper down. This victory was also fueled by Obsidian's boost, that avoided a draw by fatigue!

It was like an endless cycle of hatred for rounds, with the Life Sapper spell crippling the Magus to one health and then the mushroom dude raising his health back after his attack. The only difference was made by the extra magical damage, and few round later it was clear that the battle was reaching the endgame!

The end is near... said every Doomsayer ever! But this time this call was for the Life Sapper! Mid-way through the twelve round ... it happened! The cycle of hatred was broken and the Madcap Magus sent the abomination to eternal peace! See the full battle here!

Number 2: Giant Killer

Giant Killer is one of the most overpowered abilities in the game, helping the monster to deal double damage on enemies that cost 10 mana or more. This is game changing but was hard to predict when a big mana unit would come in play.  The odds increased with Rebellion, as more expensive cards were added.

This rebellion brings the best out of people, as the freedom fighters will fight for a cause that kept them going during the Chaos Legion reign. Some will fight for hope, while others will fight to extinguish that glimmer of hope. This battle was the first time in three years when I succesfully triggered the Giant Killer attacks!

Tarsa: +1 Melee & +1 Health

Forgotten One: Melee with Immunity

Fineas Rage: Melee with Reach

Ferox Defender: Melee with Protect

Lava Launcher: Ranged with Close Range

Djinn Inferni: Caster with Giant Killer

Tenyii Striker: Melee with Sneak

There was no clear synergy in my team, or a well designed tactic. I just selected strong units that could make a difference, and 49 mana was enough to play some of my favorite cards. The Forgotten One is a top tank, and his Immunity helped him to ignore the summoner's speed debuff.

Fineas would hit from behind, same as the Tenyii Sticker, while the Ferox Defender boosted everyone's armor. Who made the difference today? My opponent was scary, with many top cards on his side of the battleground! I panic hit when I seen the Void Dragon, theCarnage Titan and the Chaos Dragon.

Their destruction was amplified by Djinn Chwala, and the Thorns damage. Every single unit that hit the dragonkin tank got stung back with 2 melee damage, and even the Forgotten One .. has forgotten about how deadlty thornes can be. He died after he delivered his powerful blow!

Fineas Rage had to step-up and become the leader the team needed, tanking against the monstrous Carnage Titan. This unit is scary... huge stats and double strike, with a speed that contradicts his massive structure. Fineas was David and the Titan was his Goliath!

I went in panic mode, but something made that spark of hope reignite. It was when Djinn Inferni casted a fireball... and the Carnage Titan took 6 damage! This was the first time ever when I seen the Giant Killer ability triggering. Double damage against opponents that cost 10 or more mana...  David and Goliath again!

The Carnage Titan is a giant in stats and in mana cost, therefore his 11-mana cost set a bullseye on him. Djinn Inferni 6-damage attack reduced the Titan to only two health, and my odds of being totally anihilated got lower!

Tenyii Striker was on a mission, finally dealing the deadly blow on the Naga Assassin. He missed his attack in the first round, but his follow-up didn't fail. Fineas Rage was the tank I needed, giving more time to the other units. Tank swap again, and prayers that  hope the Ferox Defender will defend a bit better.

Djinn Inferni was untamed, and the titan couldn't match his strenght! This dude will take on Thanos and will probably win! The Void Dragon took his place, and I started missing the attacks. This one not only has Flying, but his speed makes the miss chances even greater.

The next two rounds were random, with attacks going left and right... and me failing to target the Void Dragon. The Ferox Defender was defeated, but his sacrifice helped the Lava Launcher to spray from close distance. Void Dragon down!

The Firecaller set the trap, and the Lava Launcher fell into it. Martyr triggered and the Chaos Dragon got boosted for the end game. I was calculating the odds in my game, like Doctor Strange, and I was losing. But .... in those infinite scenarios... I forgot about... Giant Killer! The Chaos Dragon is one of those units with a titanic mana cost, which led to double damage! Firebolt... 6 damage ... and game over! See the full battle here!

Number Three: Time For The Little League

The Little League battle-rule is always a hard one, as battle mages have to adapt and use only monsters that costs four mana or less. The selection pool got enhanced when I pulled out the Clockwork Aides! It's no joke... this card is epic! The amalgamation of scraps and spare parts that was brought to life through runemancy. They serve multiple purposes depending on how they are built.

According to the lore, the Clockwork Aides are developed by the amazing Riftwatchers using their innovative runemancy. The Riftwatchers champions are hopping from world to world chasing the Chaos Legion, and learned to capitalize on restoring scraps and junk. It looks like a gizmo made by a drunk dwarf, but it's an useful ally in combat. It the Clockwork Aide a match changer? Time will tell!

This relatively cheap cart, only 4 mana, fits amazing in the Little League battles! The gizmo starts with one health, seven armor and Swiftness, boosting the speed of friendly units. It becomes a blessing when upgraded, gaining Rust and Strengthen. At higher levels will remove the enemies armor and will boost his team with both speed and health! It's a great time to be alive!

I was looking forward to add the Clockwork in a Little League battle, and having 37 mana cap was the best opportunity. Had to pump up the players, and coach Tarsa is the best motivator. She said .... "Always believe in yourself, give your best, and stab them when they are not watching!"

Tarsa: +1 Health & +1 Melee Damage to all friendly monsters

Antoid Platoon: Very little tank with Shield

Magma Troll: Melee with Reach

Ant Miners: Melee with Scavenger

Serpentine Spy: Melee with Opportunity

Clockwork Aide: Support with Shiftness

Uraeus: Melee with Sneak

Will speed be the winning factor? The summoner's boost will bringe that extra edge during the battle? I was facing a team of deathbringers, with Thaddius Brood reducing the health of my monsters by one. No drama as Tarsa boosted back the lost health.

My opponent played the Riftwing as a tank, using Scavenger and Flying as ways to delay the damage on the back line. My team had better tactics and top synergy, adding six different abilities in the mix. What was more important than everything... I had that superior speed! This helped me to attack faster and also increased the chances to avoid attacks!

The Ravenhood Warden armored my enemies, but that was only a minor issue. The Soul Strangler was the first down, after an accurate hit delivered by Uraeus! Scavenging ants and scavenging bats.... it's getting creepy in here!

Thanks to it's shield, the Antoid Platoon received zero damage from two attacks... but was taken down by magic. I was still confident that my army will end this duel on top, and the battlefield situation was backing up my hopes.

Uraues simplified the battle, as the demonic snake one-shot the Ravenhood Warden. No more armor boost for the enemies, and my army was getting ready to inflict damage! The Magma Troll took up the tank mantle and was ready for the rumble.

The Riftwing makes a top choice for tanking duty as his Scavenger ability will keep it alive for longer! However... this one couldn't handle the heat! The Serpentine Spy delivered a deadly blow and took the team one step closer to victory!

New tanks for both as the Magma Troll was not tank matterial. Fresh tanks for both ... the health-boosted Ant Miners for me and the Shadow Snitch for my opponent. You know what they say..... Snitches get stitches!

If this was football... I was leading at half-time! Uraeus scored twice, and the Serpentine Spy went for his second "goal" of the match. He scores against an unprepared Revealer and the crowd goes mad. Who's going for the hattrick?

Uraeus went for the Venari Bonesmith but his health was too high, while the Serpentine Spy went for the last defender! The Snitch was down... hattrick for the Serpentine Spy! Few minutes of added time and we gonna celebrate the title!

The referee watched the Clockwork Aide and signaled one more round of injury time.  The Venari Bonesmith tried to gain more time but his Life Leach was pointless against such an over-powered team. The Ant Miners scored the last goal of the game and .... WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS... WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS! The MVP award goes to .... The Clockwork Aide... the Pirlo of Splinterlands!

Number Four: 12 Mana "Are You Not Entertained?"

Are You Not Entertained? is a top battle-rule ... when you have mana to bring on the big guns! However, this is not always the case... when you can use Orella Abadon! She is the oldest Gladiator who has chosen to join the professional camp, an Efreet that is more human than most humans!

The striped sickle tattoos that adorn her face and arms each represent a battle won in her lifetime, and each stripe represents a single kill within that battle. She is incredibly handy with spears of all sizes, having learned many tricks from all sorts of people in her long and storied travels.

She may be old but experience can change the tides of the battle. Orella is a bargain killer, starting the Sneak ability and earning True Strike when upgraded. Two mana for a card with two health, two damage and Bloodlust is something that will top the battlefield in duels with a small mana pool.

It can't get a better use than a 12 mana cap battle with Are You Not Entertained? battle-rule messing the random factor! Using an gladiator card in such a low mana duel is an unique opportunity! Time to entertain us Orella!

Tarsa: +1 Health & +1 Melee

Antoid Platoon: Tank with Shield

Ant Miners: Melee with Scavenger

Orella Abadon: Melee with Sneak and Bloodlust

Scorch Fiend: Zero Mana Legendary Decoy

I had to face a Water Splinter team that was prepared to face a team of casters, with magic reduction and a self-sustainable Sea Serpent. The Hardy Stonefish and the Chicken were decoys, keeping the Sea Serpent safe from early damage.

However, Orella doesn't care! First strike... first kill! Winner winner... chicken dinner! She boosted all the stats trough Bloodlust and the And Miners scavenged extra health. Was so early in the game but it was already looking good for my team!

Orella had something to prove to the younger gladiators, and started the second round with a spear attack that halved the Sea Serpent total health. The Antoid Platoon is small but mighty, as the Hardy Stonefish was added to the menu. The Sea Serpent healed and had a massive bite, only to have the sharp fangs being stopped into the ants armor.

Was time to retaliate, as Orella spear pierced trough skin and scales! Strike three and your out! It took only three rounds to settle the fight, as the tiny Antoid Platoon was David in this story. The fist-size insects took on the Goliath Sea Serpent and won! See the full battle here!

Number Five: Going The Distance On Fast-Forward

Are we going the distance when only ranged monsters can be used? I still use the classic cards as the Rebellion ones are still to integrate. The task was made harder by the limited mana and Splinter choice, with only Death available and 26 mana to use for team selection.

From ancient times, Contessa L'Ament was the best choice for  this type of battles. The sharpshooters and archers where backed by a weird synergy of abilities and monsters.

Contessa L'Ament: -1 ranged attack

Venari Marksrat: Ranged with Martyr

Gargoya Devil: Ranged with Flying and Close Range

Xenith Archer: Ranged

Ravenhood Warden: Ranged with Protect

Weirding Warrior: Ranged with Shatter

Vampire: Ranged with Life Leech

I was expecting a similar tactic from my opponent,  but I had to face the creepy Thaddeus Brood. If the health reduction made sense, the magic dampener was pointless. It looked like a wrong choice of summoner, and the units selection wasn't great either. This rebellion was stopped before it had time to amplify!

The Soul Strangler is not as powerful as an OG Vampire, and this was seen when my Dracula eliminated the lesser creature. His place was taken by the Gargoya Devil, one that looked my pale than mine. This one released a deadly bolt and took care of the Marksrat, only to boost my own Gargoya Devil through Martyr.

The pale one was shattered by his own kin, with a flap of stony wings. The Dhampir, another lesser vampiric creature, couldn't face the tide of arrows and was soon defeated. See the full battle here!
