Greetings Splinterlands Summoners! The classic weekly battle challenge retired to make way for the Battle Mage Secrets series, making it more entertaining. This new set-up adds a focus on dynamic strategies, as players will be able to choose from a greater selection of more diverse units to bring into battle.

Let's enjoy the Rise of the Commons battle-rule, where only common cards can be used. The summoners are unaffected by the rule, so ... what tactic to approach?

It's time for the rise of Gru, minions and other common beasts! Shall we go for some casters or deadly rangers? Mighty melee cards or a strange mix of common beasts?

There are so many commons, and most of them are rarely used. This challenge was designed to make us go out of the comfort zone, using all the good cards, and give some attentions to beasts and critters that are often ignored.

A news villain is rising! Let's say I used this title on purpose, as the new minions movie is trending! However, this battle had mini-beasts and they will rise from their status quo and reach glory! Minions assemble!

One of my favorite minions is the little digger that's more skilled than kobolds... the Ant Miners! According to the lore, the Kobolds dug too deep into the crust beneath the Molten Mountains, and discovered the mighty Fire Ants!

The Ant Miners carry tiny tools, which they use to enhance their already formidable digging skills. They always travel in packs and lines.

This card costs only two mana and has the Scavenger ability, gaining one health point with every monster that dies on the battlefield. Power in numbers... like the yellow minions Gru is using for his tasks!

Rise of the ... minions! This battle had "Up Close & Personal" plus "Rise Of The Commons" and created a weird atmosphere before it even started. Quantity over quality!

At least I had 34 mana to choose from, and selected the best melee monsters a lot of mana can get! Went strong on Demoralize, choosing both the Molten Ogre and the Disintegrator to reduce the damage of the opponents.

Molten Ogre: Tank with Demoralize

Ant Miners: Melee with Scavenger

Disintegrator: Melee with Demoralize

Serpentine Spy: Melee with Opportunity

Parasitic Growth: Melee with Opportunity

Tenyii Striker: Melee with Sneak

I prepared a team that was ready to take on a team that will go strong on damage, but instead I played against General Sloan! Why choose a summoner that will boost ranged attacks when you can't use ranged units?

Was the rise of the beasts indeed... with ogres, ants, parasites and all kind of sneaky monsters. The Serpentine Spy one-shot Vulguine, and the wolf with rabies will not scavenge today!

The Molten Ogre was an absolute unit, defending everyone from the two knights left alive. I got prepared for a challenge but I was facing a normie!

I kept missing attacks but it was clear that this will be a flawless victory! The team had a synergy that could have fought gloriously for ten or more rounds!

Took me three rounds to clear the table, and felt disappointed that this battle didn't had more drama. See the full battle here!

Little Minnins Are Not That Common! The Ant Miners are magnificent creatures, and the Antoid Platoon is the best "little" tank! Time for another ants bonanza!

I wanted to add a second battle, hopefully a more even duel than above... but the gods of random didn't want me to experience "Rise of the Commons" again. Played 42 battles over the weekend and the battle rule didn't pop-up!

However, I will share something that was as close as possible to the use of only common cards. The Little League battle-rule is making the Battle Mages to use only cards that costs 4 or less mana! Tarsa: +1 Melee & +1 Health

Antoid Platoon: Tank with Shield

Magma Troll: Melee with Reach

Ant Miners: Melee with Scavenger

Serpentine Spy: Melee with Opportunity

Uraeus: Melee with Sneak

Scavo Firebolt: Ranged

I wanted to link some wins, and this was the perfect opportunity! Time for the beasts to rise again ... and I had ants, snakes and other fire creatures!

I was hoping for another clear win and this time the opponent had team that was ready to retaliate. The little critters were boosted by Kelya Frendul, and ready to give me a fight!

The first round was about destroying armor and flexing muscles. Was a good time for the Antoid Platoon, as the shield reduced two attacks to zero damage.

The Serpentine Spy made the first victim... again... one-shooting Uraeus! The Xenith Monk is a good tank and a hard nut to crack! Was worried for a while, as the monk was being constantly healed by the Merdaali Guardian. However, managed to take him down by the end of the 3rd round with a power punch from the Magma Troll.

The Antoid Platoon and melee attacks are best buddies for life! The little beast kept nullifying most of the attacks!

The platoon couldn't handle the magic and four rounds into the battle I lost my first monster. Was not a big deal, as only the Tide Biter and a River Nymph left to face my beasts! See the full battle here!
