Greetings Splinterlands Summoners! The classic weekly battle challenge retired to make way for the Battle Mage Secrets series, making it more entertaining. This new set-up adds a focus on dynamic strategies, as players will be able to choose from a greater selection of more diverse units to bring into battle.

Let's enjoy the Rise of the Commons battle-rule, where only common cards can be used. The summoners are unaffected by the rule, so ... what tactic to approach? Casters or deadly rangers? Mighty melee cards or a strange mix of common beasts?

There are some top common cards, as it is one of my favorite unites. Some may say I have an obsession for the Ant Minters, and probably I have. This two mana card gets selected in 99% of the battles I do with the fire splinter. Why? Because it's cheap, the health grows through Scavenger, and is a top tank under Tarsa's guidance.

According to the lore, the Kobolds dug too deep into the crust beneath the Molten Mountains, and discovered the mighty Fire Ants! This tiny digger that's more skilled than even kobolds... the Ant Miners!

The Ant Miners carry tiny tools, which they use to enhance their already formidable digging skills. They always travel in packs and lines. This card costs only two mana and has the Scavenger ability, gaining one health point with every monster that dies on the battlefield. It becomes an (tiny) absolute unite at level six, when it gains Shield.

The Antoid Platoon is another top common, from the same type of  tiny critters. This little shielded unit can make a great tank, as Tarsa will boost both health and speed. Today I will rise with commons.... today I will rise with ants!

Rise to the Commons was doubled up by Up To Eleven battle-rule. Magic Reflect, Thornes and Return Fire are amplified, dealing more damage to all the possible attacks. The dilemma is what type to attack to choose, and how to counter your opponent.

I decided to go all-in with melee units, hoping that no Thornes will be added in the game. I was so disappointed when I seen the hulking figure of the Cursed Windeku tanking the other army.  This was also the first time I tried a unit with Ambush, one of those that will attack even before the battle begins.

The Golbano Soldier ambushed the Naga Assassin, then the battle started. The Torch Vizier was the first one to fall, after a Double-Strike from the Naga Assassin. Tenyii Striker went ninja mode and revenged his fallen team-mate.

Round two and another paired demise. The Golbano Soldier was nuked by the Silent Sha-Vi, while my Serpentine Spy took care of the Scavo Hireling. No more armor repair for the Windeku, and maybe more chances to win the game.

Those chances where getting lower with every melee attack on the cursed tank ... getting lower with every amplified Thornes damage. It soon ended as it started, with my units falling under Thornes. See the full battle here!

This battle had "Up Close & Personal" plus "Rise Of The Commons", making the team selection more difficult. Even if the mana cap was 34, it was though to select a standard team. I decided the path I was going, selecting the best melee monsters a lot of mana can get! Went strong on Demoralize, choosing both the Molten Ogre and the Disintegrator to reduce the damage of the opponents.

Molten Ogre: Tank with Demoralize

Ant Miners: Melee with Scavenger

Disintegrator: Melee with Demoralize

Serpentine Spy: Melee with Opportunity

Parasitic Growth: Melee with Opportunity

Tenyii Striker: Melee with Sneak

I prepared a team that was ready to take on a team that will go strong on damage, but instead I played against General Sloan! Why choose a summoner that will boost ranged attacks when you can't use ranged units? The other battle mage was not as skillful as he/she thought to be!

Was the rise of the beasts... with ogres, ants, parasites and all kind of sneaky monsters taking part in this battle. The Serpentine Spy one-shot Vulguine, and the wolf with rabies will not scavenge today! It was interesting that we both selected a unit with scavenger, but only one survived.

The Molten Ogre was the (big) absolute unit, defending everyone from the two knights left alive. I got prepared for a challenge but I was facing a normie! I was heading towards flawless victory!

I kept missing attacks but it was clear that this will be a flawless victory! The team had a synergy that could have fought gloriously for ten or more rounds! Took me three rounds to clear the table, and felt disappointed that this battle didn't had more drama.

Molten Ogre again... and FATALITY! Not only the monsters were common, but also the level of play delivered by my opponent. See the full battle here!
