Looks like Silver III is my maximum reachable level, both deck wise and skill wise! Sometimes I fail to reach even that level and I have to accept the Bronze I status, with only 9 treasure chests.
June was a funny month generally but the Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenges were more enjoyable then ever. Some of them I even completed more then once as the topic was too good!
Weekly Battle Challenge 1 : Beware the daughter of the Sea - The Coral Wraith
This challenge had World of Warcraft vibes as we explored uncharted waters, where the Coral Wraith is waiting for unaware sailors and adventurers. The wraith scream is carried by the ocean breeze only to sank beneath the tide! Play and read for the
The blood-soaked shores of Splinterlands are haunted by ghosts and wraiths and the most horrifying one is the Coral Wraith! It's time for a "Play & Read" experience!
"Beware, beware the Daughter of the Sea."
"Beware," I heard him cry.
His words carried upon the ocean breeze,
As he sank beneath the tide.
Those blood-soaked shores of Splinterlands,
Where sailors fought and died.
The Admiral fell on rising tide,
because she left his side.
The Water Splinter is one of my favorite because I have better cards. The Coral Wraith is an Epic Untamed card that costs 4 Mana with Sneak ability. The Wraith has 2 Health Points, 2 Speed and 2 Magic Damage and can earn Rust at level 5. Beware the daughter of the sea!
Battle Details and Team Line Up!
The battle ruleset was "Broken Arrows" and ranged monsters couldn't be used in this round. The mana cap was 99 which gave me huge flexibility and the opportunity to line up my best team.
I choose Bortus as summoner for the -1 Magic Damage to all enemy monsters as ranged damage will not be used in this combat.
The monster team:
Sea Monster: Main tank with healing
Wave Runner: Off-Tank with Reach
Sand Worm: Damage with Sneak
Capitan's Ghost: Spell Damage with Affliction
Coral Wraith: Magic Damage and sneak
Crustacean King: Healing support for melee
The opponent chose the same summoner, probably thinking same as I did. He powered up his team with high health and big melee damage. I lost the first monster in Round 2, when the Capitan's Ghost was taken down by the opponent Sand Worm. I managed to take down the Leviathan and my Sea Monster survived due to the extra heal from the Crustacean King
A massacre followed up and I my team worked hard to down the Gelatinous Cube. The Sea Serpent doing constant damage and my Sand Worm nuked the opponent's Sand Worm. From here will be straight forward as the opponent had only melee tanks left.
The rest of the fight was damage and heal, damage and heal! The Sea Serpent managed to maintain full health for the rest of the duel and turned the tides of the battle in my favor! The tactics and the team for this battle challenge was well balanced and the sneak monsters, Coral Wraith and Sand Worm, did important damage to the enemy's back line. The heal given to monsters maintained a wall in front of the heavy hitters and helped to win the game! See the full battle here!
Weekly Battle Challenge 2 : Hades had a dog and Cerberus was his name!
There was Hades and had a dog,
And Cerberus was his name-o.

And Cerberus was his name-o.
In the Greek mythology, Cerberus was the hound of Hades, the God of Death and ruler of the Underworld. Cerberus has three heads and a serpent tail. He is the guardian of the Underworld gates, stopping the dead from escaping
Finally Fire Splinter ... one of my favorites and one of the easiest to use. I constantly use Cerberus for low mana battles in a combination with Malric Inferno as summoner.
Cerberus is an ALPHA/BETA rare card that has Heal at level 1 and gains Retaliate at level 5. I wanted to upgrade it many times but hell he is expensive! For 5 Mana at level 1, Cerberus offers a good deal. He has 5 Health Points, 3 Speed and 2 Melee Damage. I use this card as main tank for fast battles.
I enjoyed so much this battle challenge that I've done not one... not two ... but three battles for this article. In fact, I could add hundreds of fights with Cerberus in the card because he is my choice for main tank for all duels under 20 Mana.
Battle 1 : Firelands conflict (See the full battle here!)
Battle Details: Mana cap 29 with normal ruleset. The opponent chose Fire Splinter and a team based on ranged monsters and melee that can hit behind the tank
Summoner: Malric Inferno +1 Melee to all friendly monsters
Cerberus: Main tank with Heal
Fineas Rage: Melee with Reach
War Chaang: Ranged/Melee
Serpentine Spy: Melee with Opportunity
Kobold Miner: Melee with Sneak
Elven Cutthroat: Melee with Sneak
The Cerberus was defeated quite easily and even if I won the game, I want to show one when his healing made the difference. Took two rounds to nuke the enemies melee monster and with only the ranged ones lest, it was all straight forward.
Battle 2 : The Guardian of the Gate (See the full battle here!)
Battle Details: Mana cap 14 with Rise of the Commons ruleset. For a low mana fight, the ruleset is brilliant, as only common and rare monsters can be used. Cerberus is the guardian of the the Underworld and his job is the keep the dead trapped in there. This is what happened in this battle, when the undead tried to escape.
Summoner: Malric Inferno +1 Melee to all friendly monsters
Cerberus: Main tank with Heal
Magma Troll: Melee with Reach
Serpentine Spy: Melee with Opportunity
Furious Chicken: Defender of the Backgate
The chicken fell first than I took down the Undead Priest. It was an epic battle of damage and heal between the Cerberus and the Haunted Spirit. At this point everything was in the hand of the Gods of Random.
Cerberus fell in Round 4 but so did the Haunted Spirit. This battle was one by the small advantage given by a higher average speed for my team and the summoner attack bonus.
Battle 3 : Ants from Hell! (See the full battle here!)
Battle Details: Mana cap 20 with Equalizer ruleset. The opponent chose Fire Splinter and a team with higher HP then my one so I had the initial advantage. Equalizer ruleset means Ant Miner for me!
Summoner: Malric Inferno +1 Melee to all friendly monsters
Cerberus: Main tank with Heal
Magma Troll: Melee with Reach
Ant Miner: Melee with Scavanger
Serpentine Spy: Melee with Opportunity
Kobold Miner: Melee with Sneak
Goblin Fireballer: Ranged
Even if the Cerberus and Magma Troll fell down fast, the Ant Miner was there to take the heavy hits. It was a game of constant damage and grinding!
I was unlucky to miss so many hits and the game was heading towards a lost battle. It was Round 3 when the Ant Miner from Hell was taken down.
Luckily, even with so many missed hits I turned the game in my favor. The equalizer ruleset played in my advantage as my monsters have low health in standard conditions. The Cerberus is such a complete card and with the Heal ability it makes up for the high mana price. I hope to upgrade it in the future, at least at level 3 for an extra Health Point and one Melee Damage.
Weekly Battle Challenge 3 : Feasting on the fallen (Scavenger)
Since discovering PC games, I was a fan of the dark side. I will definitely be a Sith Lord not a Jedi Knight, as my favorite class was Undead. Necromancy was my top trait when playing Heroes 2, staking up a horde of skeletons, vampire lords and bone dragons, casting death ripple after death ripple! Disciples ... undead as well, World of Warcraft... undead rogue, Diablo ... necromancer, and the list continues!
This was only the intro to the newest battle challenge... the Scavenger ability! What's your game plan? Are you going berserks and jump in the middle of the brawl while swinging your axe? Are you the one feasting on the fallen, making rune from their blood? Are you the scavenger that looks for a honorable death in battle?
The Scavenger ability will add 1 Max Health to the monster any time another monster will die. There are 9 cards with Scavenger, some obtaining the ability when upgraded to higher levels. From those nine monsters, I have only the Ant Miner and the Gelatinous Cube!
Add a Cube for extra flavor!
The Gelatinous Cube is the perfect card to be used as main tank and shield heavy hitters with low health such as overpowered ranged monsters or casters. The Cube costs 6 Mana and has 8 Health Points. Maybe you don't know but the Gelatinous Cube can change color to camouflage from his enemies.
Battle Details and Line-up: Mana cap 21 with Super Sneak ruleset, giving all monsters the Sneak ability.
Bortus (Summoner): +1 Spell Power to all enemy monsters
Gelatinous Cube: Main Tank with Scavenger
Wave Runner: Melee with Reach
War Chaang: Ranged/Melee
Furious Chicken: Decoy for Sneak
The opponent choose a strong tank, the Unicorn Mustang, and casters behind. Unfortunately for him, I was expecting casters and my choice of summoner was brilliant. As the chicken and other monsters were roasted, my Gelatinous Cube grew stronger.
Monsters from both sides were defeated and the battle resumed to a 1 v 1 duel between the War Chaang and the Unicorn Mustang. The opponent had the stronger card but then it came the .... retaliation! I can say this was a good tactical game where the team selection and the extra health gathered through Scavenger made the difference. See the full battle here!
The Ant from Hell!
The Ant Miner is one of my favorite cards in the game because of the low mana cost. The monster has 1 Health Point, 1 Melee Damage, 1 Speed and the Scavenger ability for only 2 Mana. I use the Ant Miner in the 3rd position, after a strong tank and another monster with Reach, giving time to build up the health.
Battle Details and Line-up: Mana cap 13 with Lost Legendries ruleset, meaning no legendary monster can be used in the battle.
Malric Inferno (Summoner): +1 Melee Damage to all friendly monsters
Cerberus: Main Tank with Heal
Magma Troll: Melee with Reach
Ant Miner: Emergency Tank with Scavenger
Furious Chicken: Decoy for Sneak
The enemy chosen Bortus but the summoner ability will have no effect on my team as no casters where selected. After the weaker monsters were defeated, was time for a K1 fight between the Serpent of Eld and the And Miner. At this point, I has hoping to land the blow and avoid a miss!
The Ant Miner delivered the fatal blow and then melted the Ice Pixie. This fight was won by the Scavenger ability and the summoner's ability. The extra Health Points and the extra Melee Damage created the winning combo. The Scavenger ability is a game changer in both short and long fights. Upgrading the monsters with Scavenger ability should be considered a long term investment as this cards can help a player advance through the rankings and earn better rewards. Surprisingly .... the chicken survived both fights! See the full battle here!
Looking forward to July's challenges and hopefully I will earn enough Dark Crystals (DEC) to upgrade a summoner to level 3. Until now I have a handful of level 2 summoners and about 20 upgraded cards. This is the main reason why after reaching Silver III I hit a brick wall and the losing streak starts.
