ZenIP 42406: EON And $ZEN Migration – High Level Overview

Time runs faster in the Cryptoverse, and the challenge is to keep up with the constant progress in the sector. At a high level, Horizen and EON are built on older technology stacks. The Horizen Mainchain is a fork of the Bitcoin C++ codebase with a block time of 2.5 minutes, while EON is written in Scala based on the Scorex SDK with an 18-second block time.

Horizen Labs is proposing to migrate to EON 2.0. and to address the limitations of these legacy systems! The ecosystem enhancement will align with the vision of Horizen as a home for ZK and an enduring utility for $ZEN,

EON 2.0 will be fully compatible EVM, ensuring that developers can seamlessly deploy existing Solidity smart contracts on EON 2.0 without requiring any modifications. EON 2.0 integrates tightly with the zkVerify protocol, ensuring fast and cost-efficient verification of zk proofs. This includes backward compatibility to provide a smooth transition for existing $ZEN holders and EON developers, including incentives, emissions, staking, partner integrations, exchange continuity, and EVM compatibility.

The migration includes the existing smart contracts on EON, including $ZEN in current liquidity pools. It will be a snapshot-based migration, where comprehensive state snapshots of both EON 1.0 and Horizen will be taken to ensure a seamless transition to EON 2.0.

There will be a claim process overtime for mainchain $ZEN, and eligible users will be able to claim their old $ZEN by proving the ownership of their address. As for $ZEN on EON, it will not require any claim, since balances will be migrated with the state snapshot.

I don't need to worry about any claims as all my $ZEN is already working on EON! I don't like lazy crypto, and I staked my $ZEN on EonNode! The earnings are paid once a week on Tuesdays, straight into the wallet without any claim requirement! I am helping the ecosystem and earning $ZEN in the process!

EON 2.0 will be built using the Substrate framework, written in Rust, with tight integration with the zkVerify protocol. The parachain will be connected to the zkVerify Relay Chain.

The transformation to Horizen 2.0 is full steam ahead! The upgrade is a substantial leap forward for the Horizen ecosystem, integrating an enhanced EVM Optimized for ZK Apps, the latest Proof Of Verification Method, exceptional performance and a new generation of DeFi tools.

The next-gen EVM is optimized for ZK apps and designed with a modular architecture that can efficiently verify ZK proofs while maintaining EVM capabilities. Horizen 2.0 overcomes the limitations of ZK capabilities on existing networks due to the highly scalable and interoperable environment specifically tailored to building ZK apps.

Developers can choose the most suitable proving mechanism directly within smart contracts, delivering enhanced performance and significant cost savings. The ZKVProtocol will enhance the Horizen and achieve exceptional performance through tight integration with zkVerify. This will allow seamless ZK proof verification at minimal cost, so ZK apps can scale effortlessly and maintain optimal performance even with high transaction volumes.

How will the upgrade impact the users? The consensus on the new EON chain will be Delegated Proof of Stake, same as the previous EON chain. The $ZEN block rewards will be covered in a technical ZenIP.

The Horizen mainchain will be deprecated, and all $ZEN will move to EON 2.0 in a set timeframe. The $ZEN token will be the native token for EON 2.0 and eligible users will be able to claim their $ZEN through a claiming mechanism.

What will happen to Super Nodes? They will migrate to EON collators and will be rewarded based on the blocks that they are chosen to forge. The Sphere wallet will be deprecated and Metamask or other non-custodial EVM wallets are recommended! I prefer Rabby wallet instead of Metamask, but this is something that each must decide!

The transformative upgrade to Horizen 2.0 brought $ZEN into the spotlights, and bad actors are tempted to enter the arena. Be vigilant and keep your ZEN safe from scammers!
