I like to consider myself a bit of an all-rounder, educator, tourist, farmer and content creator! In one of my travel experiences in Paris, I could admire the unique heritage and features of Notre-Dame de Paris. This happened before the fire that partially destroyed the roof, when Notre dame Cathedral was standing up in full splendor. The unique artifacts , including the Crown of Thorns, a silver and a nail from the true cross were endangered by the massive fire which happened on the 5th April 2019, which burned for more than 15 hour.
You came here to read crypto stuff, so I will give you crypto stuff ... as Binance Charity announced the donation of $60,000 worth of Bitcoin as a contribution towards the restoration of Notre-Dame Cathedral, which were damaged by fire back in April 2019. The 3.211 BTC donation was raised by the Binance Community, through a crypto fundraising channel. This pioneer method of using block-chain for social good attracted worldwide donations. Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedra is consecrated to the Virgin Mary and is situated in Ile de la Cite, in the 4th arrondissement of Paris and was considered one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture. It was the site of Napoleon's coronation and the inspiration for Hugo's Hunchback of Notre-Dame.
The fire that damaged Notre-Dame in 2019 was a tragedy, causing huge damage to an important global landmark of massive cultural importance. We are grateful to the Binance community who gave generously to the project and we’re delighted that we’re able to put their donations to good use in the restoration of the Mays. At Binance Charity we are great believers in transparency in philanthropy and it’s important to us that donors are able to see how their funds have been used to directly benefit the recipients, working with Friends of Notre-Dame de Paris means we are able to deliver on that - Helen Hai - Head of Binance Charity
Binance donation is an example of positive use of cryptocurrencies for positive actions, but is not the first time when charities are receiving Bitcoin donations. Back in October, the Darkside Group donated $10,000 worth of Bitcoin to Children International and The Water Project. Because Darkside makes ransomware programs the donation was deemed unethical and couldn't be accepted. This exceptional case created an unsolvable problem for Children International and The Water Project because the money was sent through a mixer that obscures the details or identity of the sender, therefore the bitcoin from the recipient this donation cannot be sent back. Binance Charity is the opposite of DarkSide Group, constantly aiming to improve the lives of the those less fortunate and sustainable development around the world, through blockchain technology, by bringing market-based innovations to traditional philanthropy. What's your opinion regarding the use of crypto in charity work?
About Notre-Dame de Paris
The cathedral was covered with sculpture illustrating biblical stories and the tympanum over the central portal on the west façade illustrates the Las Judgement, with sinners being led off to hell, and good people taken to heaven. The gargoyles were added in about 1240 were designed to divide the torrent of water which poured from the roof after rain. The gothic style suffered from the fire, and it is unknown if the renovation will be 100% accurate.
The stained glass windows of Notre-Dame were among the most famous features of the cathedral. The circles are depicting Saint Denis, Old Testament subjects, Jesus' descent into Hell, the Resurrection of Christ, Saint Peter and Saint Paul, Mary Magdalene and John the Apostle. This time of stained glass will be impossible to recreate, even with all the modern technology.
In the aftermaths of the April's fire, The French Parliament passed a law requiring that the restored roof must appeared the same as before the fire. Stabilizing the structure against possible collapse took place in 2020, with reconstruction planned to beginning in 2021. The Covid-19 pandemic delayed the plan, which was supposed to be completed was Spring 2024, in time for the opening of the 2024 Olympics.
The repair and reconstruction will not bring back the real Notre Dame but with the help of today's technology, architecture, and block-chain, Notre-Dame will open again for tourists.
