The game was on.
Derek couldn't afford to deceive himself that there was any way he could stay in the shadows. At least two dangerous gangs were after his head, and he hadn't even cracked the goddamn code. He would have to play a risky game, not having any idea of what the others were planning.
Mariana's visit was all it was needed to prod him to try harder at cracking the code, but he knew it wasn't going to be a piece of cake. Looking at the code, and the text message records, he knew the scope of the characters was broader than he expected.
Think straight, Derek.

What the hell?! How's anyone supposed to make any sense out of this? his inner detective mused as he exasperatedly tossed the pad on the table. He'd, unfortunately, used too much force, and it slipped off and landed on the ground.
"Christ," He muttered, getting up from his chair to pick it. "Can't even..." he started but paused. He was looking at the code upside down, and he was forced to drop his cheese sandwich as he saw what seemed to be the code upside down.
Only it wasn't a code. It was a name.

B. Schneider? Wait, B. Schneider!
Bruno Schneider, the cleanest, dirtiest businessman in Utopia. He could have thought...
"The girl... Sidney... the Park... Schneider... B-B-Black Lotus... Find the scorpion," he thought, recalling the words of the dying Marco. Now all he had to do was go to the park and find the scorpion.
"You don't want to live in a society like this, yet you don't want to do anything about it!" He remembered Kristine say when he told her he was tired of the police system.
Hope you're watching me put on a cape and going off to save the world, babe, he thought.
He wasn't going to be deceived or pushed around by these people any longer. It was time to crush his opponents once and for all.
He had gotten 70% of the picture. As he sipped his cup of tea, heading for the Surveillance Room, he could feel Sherlock Homes by his side, patting him on the shoulder.

What can I say? It looks as if Derek figured something out. I wonder about Scneider...why a German (name) again? You can take "Schnijders" or "Schneiders" or without an "s" instead which is Dutch and Dutch people are good to blame for everything and the butler always did it . 😁
