They had been unconscious for a little over five hours. It was now 6 AM, and their bones were aching, as well as their stomachs.
Despite being a serene-looking environment, there was nothing calm and soothing about the hard beds they had to sleep on and the unforgiving mosquitoes.
"Damn it, I'm hungry!" Alec said, exhausted. Of sleeping.
"You know, I can't argue otherwise. I'll go fishing while you find some fruit or little animal for us to cook."
"I'm pretty sure I'm much better at fishing than... er, hunting, or berry finding."
"Yeah, but this isn't the little lake you had back at your shack. The fish here are a little bit different from what'd you see there," Ace said with a smirk as he began marching towards the river.
With all the crazy creatures he'd seen since the journey began, Alec decided that a little bit of normalcy wouldn't hurt him, and so he went off into the little forest. He thought it wasn't really much different from fishing anyway, except it was more dangerous since enemies could attack him from any direction.
That sneaky b@stard had fooled him.
He sighed and moved on deeper into the forest, not minding that. He was refreshed and revitalized, although he was a little rusty. He could still kill nonetheless, so it would be a bad day for whatever tried to even come near him.
But aside from the chirping birds, nothing else moved in the forest. Why?
Then he noticed a dull-looking Berry. This had to be edible because he reasoned that it was the bright-colored berries that were the poisonous ones, so they had those colors to warn anyone thinking of enjoying a snack.
He packed up a few in a small cloth Ace had given him, and sticking one into his mouth, he walked back towards the riverside. The fruit was sweet - all red-colored fruit usually were - and really had a lot of juice in it.
"Hey, dude..." he called out as he approached Ace who was bent over the riverbank, "check this berry out."
Ace turned and looked at what he was holding.
"Oh...wait! What the le are... drop that!"
Alec turned, wondering what was going on, Then he felt dizzy, and the fruits dropped from his hand alongside the cloth.
As he looked at his right arm, to his dismay, it was melting.
