Finland ranked first as a happiness country in the world for the year 2020 according to the World Happiness Report. What does a break enjoy in the happiest country in the world look like?

Finland Tourism Board has recommended four healing-themed destinations that can only be experienced during this season. The themes selected by the Tourism Agency after consideration were sauna, quietness, natural ingredients, and fresh air.

Finland, the country of saunas

If there were no saunas, the Finland Happiness Index might have been lower than it is now. Sauna is essential to endure the harsh Nordic winter. There are more than 2 million saunas in Finland, with a population of 5.4 million. The word 'sauna' itself was also said to originate in Finnish, so I said everything.

Of the millions of saunas, the only destination that Finland's Tourism Authority has listed as a must-visit this winter is the Uusi Sauna. Wuxi, which recently opened in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, adds a modern touch to the traditional public sauna common in the neighborhood. 'Ushi' means 'new' in Finnish. It has a terrace where you can relax after a sauna and a bar and bistro that can accommodate 100 people. It is the best place to get a glimpse of the daily lives of locals who eat, drink and play in the sauna.

Healing in silence

Finland is a place where you can fully enjoy the beauty of nature. Finland is also called 'Suomi' in Finnish, which means'land of lakes'. 75% of the country is covered with forest, and there are more than 188,000 lakes. Compared to Korea, it has a population of one-tenth, but three times the area. Finland's population density is 16 people per km2. Even that, a third of the country's land is within the Arctic Circle, and populations are concentrated in several cities. This is why most of nature could not be touched by human feet and could be preserved. The five-star hut 'Octola Lodge', which opened in Rovaniemi, is a representative place that contains the Finnish philosophy that comfort from nature is the best healing.

Staying at Octola Lodge eliminates the prejudice that traveling to the North Pole is difficult. It is the first 5-star cabin in the Arctic Circle and is located on a private land of over 900,000 pyeong. All buildings are made of eco-friendly materials such as logs, and the spa, a course meal made with seasonal local ingredients, and a reindeer sledding experience add to the joy of heavenly relaxation.

Healthy meals made with clean ingredients

To be honest, Finland has no image as a gourmet destination. When asked what is the typical Finnish food, it doesn't even come to mind. In fact, it's been a while recently that Finnish cuisine has started to take off around the world. As eco-friendly ingredients and healthy diets emerged as a hot topic, interest in Finnish cuisine also increased. In Finland, various berries and mushrooms high in vitamins are literally collected and eaten. Tampere is also considered a gourmet city in Finland. 'Restaurant C', run by chef Ilka Isotalo, a famous wild food expert, is surrounded by forests, farmland and two large lakes. All dishes are made with ingredients collected or harvested nearby.

The best airy place in Finland

Finland is always counted among the five fingers as a fresh air travel destination. If so, what is the best airy place in Finland that the locals think? It is Muonio, the northernmost part of Finland. Muonio was introduced as the cleanest city in the world in the survey data of the 'Air Pollution Database' published by the World Health Organization in 2016. Choosing accommodation is important for a safer trip to Muonio in the Arctic Circle. Harriniva, located next to the Pallas-Yllastunturi National Park, is the closest hotel to Muonio's natural environment. Harinniva, with sustainability as its philosophy, operates exclusively with renewable energy.
