Is somebody bully you on internet, or maybe your friend or family? How to deal with that?
First of all: What You should know
Internet make harassment so much easier. A lot of people thought that on web there are anonymous, nobody see their face - so that is the reason why they behave bad when in normal life some of them are quite polite.
The effects of cyberbullying can be a very, very serious. It can increase the feeling of loneliness and depression, and even in some cases can push some victims to suicide.
Some are at greater risk of cyber violence - especially people who seem introverted, different from rest of their environment, or have low self-esteem.
What You Can do with that?
First, ask yourself, "Am I really being bullied?" Some people hurt others with their words unintentionally, they don't do it on purpose.
However, when someone over the Internet deliberately harassed, humiliated, or threatened someone - for sure it is a bullying.
What is very important your reaction may make it better or worse. You can try the following tips:
Ignore the tormentor. Why is this advice practical? As we can read on book Cyberbullying and Cyberthreats: "The tormentor is all about upsetting his victim, when a bullied person loses control of himself, he is actually allowing the tormentor to take it over”. So, sometimes the best answer is no answer.
Don't revenge. Why? Our anger will shows our weakness and provokes further harassment. When we take revenge, others may feel that we are little different from the tormentor. In other words: don't add fuel to the fire.
Don't be passive:
Simply just block a person that sending you a bully messages. It is not worth to spend your time and nervous on that person. Or maybe if it is necessary just stop using that social platform. Remember: what you don't read won't hurt you.
Keep all evidence of bully: harassing SMS, instant messaging, e-mail, blog posts or social media posts, or voice messages - it can be helpful when things get more serious.
Inform your parents about that. You can also report the situation to the site administrator or another service provider whose software is used by the bully. If the matter is very serious, you and your parents should report the problem to school, to the police or even seek legal aid.
Hope those few tips will help you in a such situation :)
When there is some kind of harassment over the Internet, I think it is necessary for a person to stay away from using the Internet for a while. And be careful! Of course, the case can always be reported to the police!
