Self-expression is as important as breathing to living; it is how we connect with others and the universe. It can be highly rewarding or irritably irritating. We don't really worry often about how we convey our inner truth to those outside; it just happens naturally. We can aim to convey something at other times and disappointedly fall short of what we wanted to get across.

Often, to grasp what we want to say, we can not access motivation or imagination. We have an idea of what we want to say at other times, but we don't know how to make it manifest. Some of us have trouble communicating because we are shy, anxious, or actually feel that our abilities to communicate are lacking.

A way to express oneself is through the creative arts. No matter how scared you might feel about voicing yourself, remember that there are so many ways to get involved.

Art provokes spiritual well-being, from finger-painting to dynamic landscapes, from Lady Gaga to Chopin. Indeed, people have used art throughout history to cultivate meaningful changes within themselves and to build relationships with the outside world. Via self-expression or delving into one's spiritual pain of listening or hearing, art generates personal exploration; channeling art solidifies how our life is influenced by outside sources.

Even if we do not have the technical capacity to compose a poem or paint a self-portrait, the emotion or substance of a piece can be related to our own struggle by most of us using our senses. We all know a song that reminds us of the best friend of our childhood; we all know a photo that induces pleasure or remorse. After all, despite our different ability levels, we are all linked through art.

The self-esteem and stress-reduction facilitation of art theoretically helps everyone to work through every cause of trauma. An irreplaceable sense of productivity and worth is generated by beginning and completing every job, and enjoying the finished product. Likewise, we can enjoy the product and share it with loved ones after studying or making a piece.

While art links individuals, it can also provide a sense of independent thinking and behavior. Away from appointments, away from family stress, away from the demands of society, engaging with art places the person in charge. In this sense, no one can enforce what can be said, what colors are allowed, what should cultivate inspiration; the search for spiritual well-being is an individual journey.

On a daily basis, we all engage with art; but few stop to think about how these modes of expression not only look beautiful or have a danceable rhythm, they also have spiritual well-being. Art cultivates both individuality and interaction with others by reflection on a soulful piece of music or doodling the picture of a loved one.
