Continuation from part one...
‘he is not worth the worries my love’, she said ‘his time is fast approaching’. Louis said while still maintaining eye contact with Denver. ‘you say all the nicest things’ Statham said, bringing his gaze back to her. She had the sweetest smile I've ever seen. She made him stronger. Together he believed they could crush all their enemies. ‘have you given any thought to what I told you last night?’ she asked him in a low voice so as not to attract attention. ‘we don’t talk about these things in public for goodness sakes Louis’. Statham rebuked her immediately. ‘You’ve got to be careful with what you say outside our chambers these days, no one is to be trusted’, Statham continued while staring at Louis who was trying so hard not to get angry at him. ‘your paranoia is not fit for a president’ she replied. ‘act as one’.
Before Statham could say another word a familiar voice drifted his attention from Louis, ‘I see you took my advice and got yourself a good suit’, Statham turned around to see Denver smiling at him while extending his hands for a handshake. Statham could not comprehend the audacity of Denver, he stared at Denver but was lost in the thoughts of what he wanted to do to him. Skin him alive? Boil him whole? Maybe feed him to the wild beast? ‘how nice of you to come all the way here to compliment my husband’s suit’, Louis said, giving Statham time to come out of his thoughts. ‘I did indeed take your advice, the tailor you recommended did a fine job’ Statham said while forcing a smile and then extending his own hands to shake Denver. Their handshake seemed to last forever, as both men held firmly to each other’s hands while locking a non-smiling eye contest.
The awkwardness was already building between the two before Louis broke the duo, ‘you don’t look bad yourself Denver’ she said. Denver turned his gaze at her, then back at Statham grinning with a selfish smile before withdrawing his hands from the handshake with Statham and finally focusing his gaze on Louis, ‘I try as much as I can to look the part my first lady’, he motioned for Louis to bring her hands while he kissed the back of her hands. ‘can I talk to you privately’, Denver said to Statham, motioning for him to excuse Louis. ‘she stays’ Statham replied Denver, ‘let me leave you two to discuss politics, besides I have never liked politics’, Louis interrupts Statham. ‘You are going nowhere, whatever he wants to say to me, he can say it here with you present’ Statham objected to Louis leaving. Denver sighed but then smiled again and said, ‘Alright Mr. President, the council meeting begins in a short while, and I don’t want to fight you on this bill. So my proposal is simple, appoint one of mine, the warden of the southern border safety camp, and I’ll support this your outrageous bill to revoke the rights of every sufferer in the territory’.
Denver was a canny politician and Statham knew this, but this time he couldn’t figure out what Denver was up to, so he looked at his wife who always had an answer to every question. She was the brain behind his government. Louis knew this was a ploy by Denver to get sympathy votes from other council members against the bill. The bill was supposed to be a legal way out in case the leash on project Alchemies ever saw the light of the day. She was always ten steps ahead of Denver but this time she didn’t see this coming. She knew her husband would never let go of control of the southern border camp, its resources were enormous and whoever controlled the camp, could detect the direction of the government and Denver knew this. But this bill was more important than power now, for it would change the course of history, it gives them free and unhindered access to human samples for project alchemies. But Statham was short-sighted when it comes to power, and she couldn’t dare try convincing him in the presence of Denver. ‘we’ll relinquish the control of the northern camp and also increase budgetary allocations of your group’, she said. Statham nodded in agreement.
‘it’s either the southern camp or nothing’, Denver said
‘You mischievous bigot’, Statham said rather angrily.
‘I guess this conversation is over’ Denver said, tipped his hat, and walked out on both of them. They could see Denver talking to the others saying he tried to make a deal with Statham but he was stubborn as usual.
The council meeting lasted for three hours and the bill didn’t pass. Statham walked out of the chambers angrily with Louis walking immediately behind him.
‘project Alchemies, that’s what you call you right, tell me about it again’, Statham said to his wife.
‘oh dear, what would you do without me’, Louis said while kissing the lips of her angry husband, she continued
‘it’s already in motion for almost three months now, I was just waiting for the right time to tell you about it. We’ve made some progress and you’ll like the outcome. His name is Silas’
‘Silas you say’ Statham said while placing his hands around his wife’s waist. ‘I like his name, Silas’.
Louis now pressed against her husband ran her hands through his full beards while they watched as Denver came out of the chambers smiling at them.
‘oh he is just the first amongst many super soldiers to come, and when we are done with this project of super-soldiers, our enemies will stand no chance against us’, she said while returning Denver’s smile.
‘He may have won this fight, but the battle is far from over’. She continued and then kissed Statham on his lips.
