27th February 2020
On 27th February 2020, as I was preparing to go home from work, I sat in my office consumed with fear as the first confirmed case of coronavirus disease was recorded in Lagos, Nigeria. I felt like a kid, standing on the high drive for the very first time, about to plunge into the pool far below.
Yet behind the scenes and escalating fears, health workers around the world have been working tirelessly on the frontlines since the first cases appeared even when faced with increasing rates of infection and endure back-to-back overtime shifts as they work to detect, treat, and prevent COVID-19 infection and illness.
Some times, it must be overwhelmingly discouraging, yet there is no giving up. You are a precious and limited resources.
Finally, we must all keep in mind that this too shall pass, though perhaps not as quickly as we might want it to. But always remember that "No Condition is Permanent". As bad as it was, the Ebola epidemic in West Africa would have been far worse without the efforts of all the health workers on the ground. After two long years, it finally came to an end..
Let's appreciate all the health workers worldwide.
