WHAT MAKES A LEADER
A couple of things can make a person to be a leader, things like intelligency, I Q, and technical skill but according to Daniel Goleman in the context * what makes a leader" He had centered it on emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence had to do with one's personal capabilities, analytical reasoning, competency and as well as ability to work with others effectively.
A leader,being someone that serves his followers must possessed all these five components of emotional intelligence for him/her to become a great and successful leader. These components include: social awareness, Self regulation, Motivation, Empathy and Social skill.
The first component ,social awareness which deals with having deep understanding one's strengths, emotions and weaknesses. A leader must have high level of social awareness so that he get to know how his emotions afftect himself, colleagues and work. And in being able to understand effectiveness of his emotions on what he does gives him he ability to lead right.
Also before a person can be called a leader he/she must possess self regulation, this is being able to control your feelings ad impulses. A leader with this component is capable of creating an environment of trust and fairness. Self regulation enables a leader to adapt to a particular change in an organization eve when the change seems consuming and tiring at first.
Motivation is also a component that makes one a leader. A leader must have passion in what he does, bringing out new ideas to make a task done at the quick possible time. A leader with high level of motivation is optimistic and he would always look for ways or strategies to get things done.
Part of the components of emotional intelligence make one a leader is empathy, understanding of the thoughts , feelings and emotions state of another person. A leader must be able to sense and understand the viewpoints of everyone around the table. This context does not really mean trying to please everyone because it would make actions impossible but thoughtfully considering everyone's concent in making intelligent decisions.
A leader must also possess social skill, being able to manage relationship with others. It is always important for a leader to know how to build rapport with his colleagues. This skill help one to have a network in place when time of action comes. A leader mist effectively manage relationship with people-maintaining connections with people can also help in the progress of a company.
Although I Q and technical ability are also important but emotional intelligence has the most important keys to become a leader. And since no leader is an island, emotional intelligence can be learned.
