On the feast of the Epiphany, I decided to make this cake. I made a sweet version with drops of chocolate and almond flakes. Instead of coins I put a whole almond The one who finds an almond become a one-day king.
Preparation :
1. Mix the germ with 50 ml of lukewarm milk, a little sugar and flour and let it rise.
Meanwhile, prepare the other ingredients. Put flour and sugar in a mixing bowl. Add the raised germ, the rest of the milk and butter. Mix until you get a dough that separates from the edge and sticks. Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it double in a warm place.
2. Transfer the risen dough to a silicone base and knead the chocolate drops. Leave a fifth of the dough aside (200g) and shape it into a ball and divide the rest of the dough into 8 pieces (about 97g each ball) and shape each into a May ball. Put in one small ball almond.
Prepare a 26 cm cake tin and line it with baking paper. Put a larger ball of dough in the middle and 8 smaller balls around it. Let them rise covered for 20-30 minutes.
Turn on the oven to 180 C.
Whisk the egg yolk and milk, coat the dough balls and sprinkle with almond flakes.
I made three crowns out of a little dough and put them on a bigger ball.
Bake for about 30 minutes and cool completely.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
