Be Careful Using Kraken! (And Other CEXs too?) Yesterday I sent $300 worth of crypto, (a nontrivial amount for me!), to an address I had saved for Kraken. After several hours it had yet to show up, so I contacted support. Their response is copied below. What I had done is copy and paste several crypto addresses from my Kraken account, so I could simply open a text document when I wanted to send money to it, rather than go through the hassle of logging in. Unfortunately, apparently Kraken can expire any address at any time, making the idea of saving addresses for future use a dangerous practice. Well phooey! Do other CEXs do this as well? To Kraken's credit, their support response was quick and accurate. I can't say the same will happen for other CEXs. (Yes, Coinbitch, I'm looking at you!) This is yet another experience using crypto which is making me like cryptocurrency less and less. Given the events of the past few weeks, with scammers flocking to DeFi, (did any of y'all get hurt by the LUNA/UST debacle?), I seriously starting to doubt whether crypto is a good investment, or whether it is just something for techie geeks and criminals to play with. ================================================================= Thank you for contacting Kraken. After reviewing your account we can see that you have sent these funds to an expired BTC deposit address. Typically, addresses will only expire once you generate more than 5 deposit addresses. The oldest address will expire until you are left with a maximum of 5 addresses. However, there may be some circumstance, such as a change or update to our deposit processing systems, in which your addresses will expire prematurely. We would advise you to always check if your deposit address is still listed on your deposit page before sending funds. You will however be relieved to know the funds are still safe and the deposit should credit sometime within the next 8 weeks. In future please ensure you deposit to an unexpired address as we can't always guarantee funds to expired addresses will be recoverable. Deposits to expired addresses also will NOT show on the funding page of your account but will have a record available within your balance and ledger history.
