What Did They Put In Those Peanuts? I'm kinda in a "mood" today, so I hope I don't offend anyone, (no, I'm NOT constipated - thanks for your "concern"), but I just have to rant a bit about what folks here do to perfectly good peanuts. Check out the first picture. Garlic peanuts sounds yummy, no? But I wonder what the heck a "dilis" is? Look a little closer ........ do you see it? It's a DRIED FISH!! A flippin' tiny dried fish stuck in a bag of roasted peanuts! Without closely examining the bag, (safety tip for foreigners: ALWAYS closely examine any of the food you get here in the Philippines!), I took a handful of this stuff and shoved it in my mouth. The peanuts were fine, until I noticed the fish. Now it wasn't as bad as it sounds. These little dried fish are actually semi-edible, and I can eat them when they're cooked with scrambled eggs. But it was quite a shock to find fish mixed in with the peanuts. For a true gustatory delight, check out the second pic. This yucky thing was put out for someone's breakfast. (NOT MINE, thank you! I had my wife make me some oatmeal.) Eat a fish like that, and you can have the full dried fish experience. Anyway, I hope everyone had a breakfast they enjoyed and was nutritious. God bless you if it was dried fish.

We do eat kippers in the UK for breakfast. They are quite tasty but those dried fish look hardcore.
Yeah, well the UK is another "difficult cuisine" country, at least for me. Blood sausage? Kidney pie? Do y'all still eat that stuff? I haven't been in England in a long time, but last time I was there I survived on pizza and Indian food, with the rare exception of an extremely expensive restaurant once or twice. My experience, (and I could have just had bad luck), was that you don't come to England for the food. That was over 30 years ago. Maybe things have changed?
I still eat black pudding (Mcleod and Mcleod from Stornaway) is the best, I still eat kippers and love steak and kidney pie, lol. I do love Chinese food though and thhere are lots of good ones around. So I am not as thin and fit as I should be.
Not sense of quality control whatsoever.
Oh no ........ folks WANT those darn fish in their peanuts. As for the pic of the breakfast fish, that's considered a fine meal here. I'm the odd weirdo who would rather eat a bowl of cold cereal.
I'm Filipino so I know about 'tuyo'. Try it with champorado - the dark chocolate sweetened rice.
Oh my ...... so you know all about balut, grilled chicken intestines, stinky fish cooked in vinegar (ugh!), and all the other stuff my wife and her family eat. I remember trying the fish head because, "it's the best part". No it's not!!
Yup, I do. I made a couple of posts about those local food.
