Are you staying on track?

What are your two most important goals right now?  Perhaps one is a business goal, such as prospecting 25% more customers this year than you did last year.  Another could be a personal objective, like losing ten pounds within two months.

Go ahead.  On a separate sheet of paper, make two vertical columns and write down the two goals you have identified for yourself, one atop each column.  Now, immediately beneath each heading, jot down everything you did todayto move towards each objective.  Next, write down everything you did yesterday to bring you closer to achieving your goals.  What about last week?  Last month?

Okay, look at your list.  Over the past month, how much time did you spend on these two items. . . and how much progress did you make?

If you've taken significant action daily toward these goals, congratulations!  Unfortunately, you're in the minority.  Many people have specific aspirations which they say they want to accomplish, but which they seldom take action on.  If this sounds familiar, it's possible that you're not really committed to achieving the goal.

Oh, you claim you are, but your actions prove otherwise.  If this is the case, admit it and replace the goal with something you'll have the desire to achieve and the discipline to follow through on.

It's also possible that you do have the desire to reach your present goal but, for one reason or another, you've been procrastinating or letting other, less important, tasks get in the way.  Allow me to share a personal example.

For the last two years, I've talked about writing a book.  Yet, I never got around to it because I was doing too many other projects at the same time.  I had to face this fact:  if I don't delegate the other tasks, the book will NEVER be completed!  So I have chosen to entrust these duties to someone else--which will allow me time to get back on track with my book.

We all need a periodic reality check to make sure we are spending time on those things which mean the most to our well-being and success.  If you've veered off course, now's the time to assess what's needed to get you moving once more in the proper direction.  Schedule activitiesimmediately which put your actions on target with your goals.

Invest the time to carefully plan each week and, at the end of the week, determine if you've been doing the things which will help you accomplish your objectives.  It's one investment guaranteed to pay huge dividends!
