Matai means god and Tuari means water body. Matai Tuari means random water body. However, it is better known as Matai Poukhiri. In order to make it easier in Bengali, the rules and principles of grammar were violated and the noun 'Matai Poukhiri' became known as 'Devata Pukur'. There are many arguments in the conscious community of the district. Myschari Bazar is located five kilometers south of the district town (on Khagrachhari-Rangamati road). There is a Tripurapara five kilometers further west. Name Thalipara. It is located in Noonchhari mouza of Khagrachhari Sadar. Nunchhari is a small river formed from the Chengi river. Nunchhari mouza is named after this small hilly river. Cars can be taken up to the shop area of Thalipara. From there you have to walk up the stairs to reach Matai Tuari. This fort is located on the top of a hill at an altitude of about one thousand feet above sea level. Transparent, saline bari and streamless water. The specialty of this water body is that even if you take a bath here, the water never gets muddy.
Its position is about one thousand feet perpendicular to the east-west. The size of the pond is 1500 feet in length and 600 feet in width. There is a rumor that if you swear by bathing in this divine water, you will get what you ask for. There is also a strange story about the creation of this reservoir. The reservoir was formerly a hill. And the people of the Tripura community used to cultivate zoom on this hill. One day, in a dream of a Jumi, the mountain god forbade him to cultivate Jumi on the hill. But the Jumiya man did not follow the prohibition of the mountain god and started cultivating Jumiya. In this way, the mountain god used to forbid by repeatedly appearing in dreams. One night, in a dream, the mountain god told him that in order to harvest the crop of this zoom, human sacrifices have to be made here. Otherwise something huge will happen. But the Jumeirahs did not listen. A few days later, one night, the hill suddenly collapsed and Jumkhet was destroyed. In the morning the Jumeirahs went and saw their Jumese fields no more. A reservoir has been created there. That is why the ancient people there named this water body 'Matai Tuari'.
