Health Minister Zahid Malek has said that Bangladesh has received a promise to get a vaccine made by researchers from Oxford University in the United Kingdom. He also said that Russia wanted to know the capacity of Bangladesh to produce vaccines.
The minister was responding to a question from reporters in the conference room of the health ministry at the secretariat on Monday (August 31st).

Zahid Malek said Oxford researchers have received a promise to get the vaccine. Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited of Bangladesh has entered into an agreement with Seram Institute of India. The government is also trying to bring.
The minister said Russia wanted to know the capacity of Bangladesh to produce vaccines. Several companies in the country have that capability. We have sent a letter to Russia, the Russian ambassador has also spoken about the vaccine. Arrangements are being made to deliver the letter to the Russian health minister through the embassy.

Asked by reporters whether Russia had given any hints about the vaccine, Malek said Russia wanted to give it in the GTZ system (from government to government). .
Apart from China, no other country or organization has so far applied for the vaccine trial in Bangladesh, he said.
Asked if the Oxford vaccine would be piloted in the country, he said they had not yet said so. We are waiting for what Oxford has to know from Bangladesh, we need to know more details.
Zahid Malek said South Korea wants to share their experience with us. They have successfully dealt with coronavirus, but again their infection has been seen on a large scale. They have given us a letter saying that they will give us several PCR machines and kits. They will help with the antigen test that the government approved a few days ago and will give us a kit worth seven million dollars, which will be in our hands in a few days. We have started the process of bringing the antigen kit, even if Korea gets that kit, the test will start. They also said that they do not test antibodies in Korea.
