Tantrums in children can include movement and crying as well as episodes of screaming, hitting, kicking, and holding their breath. This condition often occurs in public places and frustrates parents. Out of frustration, parents often make mistakes when dealing with it.

Tantrums are a typical stage in a child's growth. It is a way for young children to express their annoyance or frustration. Many parents make the mistake of applying discipline to stop tantrums. This only makes things worse. However, obeying children for tantrums will only encourage them to use that strategy in the future. That's not true either. So, parents should take appropriate steps to educate and encourage good behavior in children.

Rachel, parenting coach said, when a child has a tantrum, the thing to do is be quiet, breathe deeply, and fulfill his needs. Conscious parents still need to discipline and correct their children but tantrums at times are not appropriate.

"For centuries we have been taught that if we don't stop child abuse immediately, our children will become weak, tender, bad boys who expect everyone to fulfill their fragile emotions. We have been taught that some bad emotions and scary that opinions hinder their emotional development," he said in a recent Instagram post. He reveals what parents should avoid when a child has a tantrum.

# Don't laugh or ignore

Doing so will hinder the child's emotional development. Instead, parents should welcome, validate, and calm all emotions to teach a child that they are safe and will eventually pass.

# Stop their emotions

Doing so will also hinder the child's emotional development. Instead, increase tolerance and make room for your child's emotional waves to come and go.

# Advise children during tantrums

When a child has a tantrum, his brain is disorganized so it is not ready for logical and sensible lessons. If they try to discipline at this point, they will not retain the lesson and will repeat the negative behavior over and over again. Wait patiently for their emotions to stabilize.

# Surrender to the child's wishes

Sometimes, parents throw tantrums because they are desperate to stop their child's tantrums. Or, they decide to fulfill the child's wishes just like that so that the child will stop his tantrum behavior.

In fact, trying to calm your child down in this way will teach your child that anger is the best way to get what they want.

Chances are, your child will also increase their tantrums in the following days to influence you to want to fulfill their desires immediately.

# Warn the child repeatedly

Reminding your child to stop yelling or crying repeatedly when they have a tantrum won't help. Instead, this kind of response will show your child that you don't mean what you say.

Ignoring a child's tantrum behavior is also not the best course of action, so you need to compensate by giving them a consequence. For example, put your child in a separate room when they have a tantrum or take away child's privileges (such as snacks and toys) if their child's bad behavior annoys others.

Think of tantrums as a way for children to communicate their unmet needs. Instead of seeing tantrums as unwanted behavior, you should make tantrums a form of child communication.

# Bribing children

Tantrums can strike children at any time even when they are in a crowd. Perhaps, it can make you feel embarrassed.

Even so, be sure not to promise anything to your child just to stop their tantrums, as doing so can encourage the child to tantrum even more.

Instead, offer gifts directly in front of the child. When offering a reward, also offer the child the choice of whether they want to stop tantrums and get a reward or continue tantrums but don't get a reward. This will be much more helpful in stopping your child's tantrums immediately. Hopefully useful and thanks for reading.
