It's been great to point out that Satire is not just being happy, funny or using sarcasm. It could be also offensive, triggering and downright crazy. This is one of the official editorial where we tackle and breakdown the VinCentiment's video titled, Online Class.
.
This article will breakdown where it was targeted, how it was targeted, who are going to be offended and who/what are the aspects of society is attacked by the specific satire. So let's get started...
.
The Opening Sequence of the 9 min short film is the introduction of a 'Normal' happening in the society, which to be satirized later onto the development of the story. It opens on an online classroom where a specific female student is reporting to the class, and the satire starts here.
.
One of the components of Satire is exaggeration. The noisy electric fan, the loud barking of the dog, the scolding parent, a crying child, and some annoying neighbors; they are impossible to happen 'consecutively' in real life.
.
But, here's where the offensive part is. The student suddenly takes an unexpected turn, raises her voice and started to scold the teacher. Is this enough to say that this satirical attack is exclusive to teachers? Let's breakdown the scene.
.
There are many components in the scene but let's focus on the characters. Only Teachers and Students are present, this creates an unusual combination of Student vs.Teachers scene. This is where things can get offensive because the attack is directed at the teachers. Since the scene is ONLY limited to Student and Teacher tension, it maybe plausible to say that it is an attack on teachers.
.
Bear in mind that a satire always, has always symbolism embedded. It may look like that it only and exclusively attacks the teachers but it also satirically attacks the Philippine Government, more specifically the DepEd for pursuing Online Classes and other alternative learning mechanisms amid of the pandemic. They used the teacher as an intermediary medium to satirically attack a much larger entity.
.
This is a very dangerous move when writing a satirical content. It was intended to target the pursuing of Online classes and other learning alternatives amid of the pandemic. But, take note that in every satirical content, there's always at least one person who's going to find it offensive.
.
The short film antagonizes teachers to the point where the teachers "takes the role of the DepEd", which is the symbolism is meant to express to attack in this satirical content. However, the usage of strong inappropriate words can render the video to a possible demise and it maybe taken down.

Actually in my honest opinion, the issue discussed as well as scenarios presented is our reality today, it's just that it is played in exaggeration-which is how vincentiments present their movies (tatak na nila i-over react ang issue kumbaga)

Yeah, I agree. Their contents are very funny though... It really interests me how they overreacts to a certain topic... Sadly, some people are downright offended. Satire is the best way to express your opinions though <3
