Barcelona: A gang of Catalan separatists had executed a plot to rob 100 million Euros from the locker room of Spanish football club Atletico Madrid. The robbery was planned for several months by the militants who targeted the cash-rich clubs in Spain. They have used fake credit cards and stole cash from lockers at half a dozen top stadiums, including Barcelona’s Nou Camp and Real Madrid’s Bernabeu.
The report stated that Police have arrested seven people for the robberies at stadiums across Spain since December. According to sources, five men were detained in raids on homes across Catalonia as they executed an operation to arrest suspects who allegedly carried out six thefts between December 2016 and June 2017. They also found large amounts of stolen money from many lockers where they even took photos before making away with it. The robbers infiltrated into the stadium using forged passes or wearing security uniforms, according to a statement released by police in Catalonia’s capital Barcelona. Two clubs involved are said to be Atletico Madrid and Espanyol Barca while another is still unknown but one thing is clear that they target big clubs with money bags only.
They have also identified a member of the gang as a man who had worked for FC Barcelona’s security company, Prosegur. The other is said to have posed as an employee of Atletico Madrid security firm Seguridad Integral Canaria (SIC), police said. Police found large amounts of cash from many lockers where they even took photos before making away with it. The robbers infiltrated into the stadium using forged passes or wearing security uniforms, according to a statement released by police in Catalonia’s capital Barcelona.
Police said they believe there are more such incidents and investigations are underway to find out more about these robberies which seem to be well planned!
