Osamu Tezuka (3 November 1928 – 9 February 1989) was a Japanese manga artist, cartoonist, animator, film producer, and activist. Born in Osaka Prefecture, he is best known as the creator of the comics series Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion, Black Jack, and Phoenix. And because of this work and creation he was given the title "the father of manga", "the godfather of manga" and "the god of manga".
