CANDON CITY, June 12 (PIA) - - Amid the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Ilocos Sur Second District Engineering Office resumed the construction of the sports complex and convention center located along By-Pass road at Barangay Bagani Campo here. The Cuneta Astrodome-inspired sports complex sits on a three hectare land area with the building footprint of almost one hectare and the rest are allotted for parking and road network. The special feature of the Sports Complex is that it will have a layered dome-style roofing system, which is one of a kind in the Philippines. This is according to District Engineer Jose Ginete, Jr, and he added that the materials for the roofing system will be sourced out from other countries. “This structure will have four floors including the basement and will have a seating capacity of at least five thousand spectators. The main area for this project is the multi-purpose court with an area of 960 square meters (24m by 40m) and a stage with an area of 600 square meters located at the first floor of the sports complex,” said Ginete.
