So in absence of insulin, adipose tissues are lysed, releasing free fatty acid in the circulation and cleared by the liver.
Another benefit of the fasting state is the release of growth hormone that further enhance the break down of fats from adipose tissues. In this way , fats are metabolized using these two hormones. And the end result is loss of weight relative to fat loss.
