Old age home means the abode of old men and women. The unimaginable success of science in the 21st century, the tremendous advancement of medical science has brought about a huge change in the quality of life all over the world. The average life expectancy of the people of Bangladesh has increased. As a result, the number of old people is increasing. Therefore, protecting the elderly has become a challenge not only in the world but also in the country.

The United Nations has identified 60 years of age as old age. As such, six point one percent of the population in the country is elderly men and women. In 2025, this number will increase to 10.1 percent. Most of the elderly in Bangladesh live with their families and the burden of their maintenance, treatment, etc. falls on the child. But now there is a breakdown in the joint family due to various social, psychological and economic changes. Separate family or joint family system is declining. As a result, the elderly are losing their most important rights i.e. shelter and accommodation. According to the survey, 8% of the elderly in Bangladesh have one or another child (inside the country or abroad). Parental contact with them is less. As a result, old parents suffer from various problems.

Looking at the current context, it is seen that the old age home or shelter for the elderly parents is different from the family and relatives. The old age home was created out of compassion for the helpless and poor old people, where the old people had the necessary services and shelter. But that picture of the old age home is no more. The parents who were closest to the child when he was a child, without whom the child could do nothing The one who did not eat, the one who did not sleep when the child did not sleep, the one who sat on the child's lap when he was sick, the address of the last age of the parents is now the old age homes.

Nowadays, many educated, intelligent and working children do not feel the need to keep their parents with them. Parents feel troubled. Leaving them in the old age home. Sometimes neglect and abuse create a situation where they find themselves in a different place. Many people do not lack wealth, but do not give some money or a little time to parents. They do not have enough time to talk to them. Evidence of this can be found on the pages of newspapers. Earlier, letters from elderly parents to their children from old age homes were printed in newspapers.

We who neglect our elderly parents, feel their burden, leave them in the old age home, have we ever thought that they can grow old today, but they did not come to earth in old age. They were not the burden of the family, but the children were the burden to them. They never felt the burden of children. They didn’t put a point amount of error in raising the children. She has nurtured the child with so much care. How much the mother has suffered for each child. From pregnancy to adulthood, the debt that a mother has made for her children will never be repaid.

They do not want much. They want to spend their last years happily with their grandchildren and family. We do not understand why, today I will step into old age in a few days. This is the normal religion of life. Have we ever wondered, where will my shelter be when I grow old? So not the old age home, the family is the address of all of us.

The government has passed the Parental Maintenance Act 2013 to protect the elderly. This law must ensure that every child is supported by his or her parents; If a parent has more than one child, then the children talk to each other about their parents

Will ensure maintenance. In order to ensure the maintenance of the parents under Section 3 of this Act, every child shall be guaranteed to live in the same place with the parents; Article 4 No child shall compel his or her parents, or both, to live together or separately in an old age home or elsewhere against his or her will; According to Article 5, every child has health of his father and mother

Keep regular inquiries about, provide necessary medical services and care; According to Article 8, if the father or mother or both live separately from the child, then each child must meet with him or her regularly.

Everyone is suffering from anxiety about corona infection. This anxiety puts extra strain on the mind. Symptoms of panic, unreasonable anger or depression may also occur. At this time, the elders in the family should take as much as possible. Old age home is not desirable for any parent. The child should be sympathetic to those who have made so many sacrifices for the sake of the child. It is the duty of every child to ensure that they can spend the last years happily with their families. We came to earth for them not to forget. To them our debt is unpaid.

So we should take care of them and respect them.

Thanks for reading my article.

The old woman gets upset when she hears about labor. Leaving someone in old age labor forgets that we will ever grow old. We should respect and protect the elderly.
