# Dust that is good for our earth.
Dust pollutes our environment which causes many problems. Most of the dust rises from the ground and goes into the air. But there is also dust that comes down to earth from space. But it is beneficial in that it enriches our lands. But where does this space dust come from?
On those nights when the sky is clear, you must have seen a long line of falling stars, which quickly disappear from one side to the other. But their final destination is our land.
The stars that we see falling and disappearing in the sky are called meteors. In fact, they are small and large pieces of rock that are rapidly traveling in unknown directions in space.
Scientists say that most meteors are fragments of stars that have broken apart for some reason. These pieces have no destination. When they come close to our planet, the gravity of the earth attracts them. Rapidly moving towards the earth, when they pass through the atmosphere, they are burnt to ashes by the friction of the air.
This ash floating in the air slowly falls to the ground. Astronomers estimate that about 40,000 tons of ash fall to Earth each year. This ash contains many minerals and compounds that increase the fertility of the soil.
It is very rare for a meteorite to fall to the ground. However, if they are too large, parts of it fall to the ground to avoid burning.
There are very few reports of damage caused by falling meteors. This is because about 60% of meteorites fall in polar regions where there is no population, while most of the remaining 40% is lost to the sea.
There have been incidents in history in which large-sized meteors have fallen to the ground and caused extensive damage. Scientists say the largest meteorite fell to Earth 63 million years ago, wiping out the dinosaur species.
Scientists say there are at least six meteorites on Earth weighing several tons. One of them, the meteorite, weighs 34,000 pounds at the Natural History Museum in New York.
According to scientists, the heaviest planet on earth so far has been named Hoba. It weighs 60 tons and is in Argentina and it fell to the ground 10,000 years ago.
Meteors that fall to the ground usually weigh 50 to 10 kilograms. Larger meteors rarely fall.
Of the meteorites that fall to Earth each year, only half a dozen meteors fall into the hands of scientists, while the rest either fall into the ocean or become destinations that are difficult to reach.
The meteors that do not reach the ground and burn to ashes in our atmosphere. Their particles gradually fall to the ground. It contains a significant amount of aerial ash and, according to conservative estimates, weighs 40,000 tons a year.
