Archaeologists in northern Sudan have unearthed a number of human remains in the border region of the Sahara Desert. The remains were found in the Jebel Sahaba tomb on the east side of the Nile River. Surprisingly, the skeletons are about 13,000 years old and are thought to be the oldest known sectarian clashes in history.
Jebel is an unfortunate find in the Companions. He probably died as a result of a head injury
The researchers estimate that the conflict lasted from a few months to almost a year. Most of the dead died from arrow wounds. Archaeologists believe that the people found here are the ancestors of today's African Americans.
Another pair of skeletons found in the Jebel Sahaba
After so many thousands of years, it is very difficult to find the real cause of the conflict. However, researchers speculate that a natural disaster may have killed all the plants and animals in the area and dried up all the reservoirs. They believe the two sides clashed just to occupy the Nile River because of its water flow.
