Speaking of 2009. A team of archaeologists has unearthed a 6,000-year-old settlement in the southeastern Swedish city of Motala called Canaljorden. There, at the bottom of a shallow lake, they found a mass grave buried with stones. Eleven skulls and skull fragments were found in the grave. Surprisingly, between the skulls were two wooden poles. Seeing the condition of the others, it seemed that they too had reached the same stage.
Even today, archaeologists do not know the real identity of the unfortunate and why they were buried in this way. They could not even unravel the mystery of how the part of another woman's skull came inside one woman's skull.
However, scientists have put forward two theories to explain this situation. However, they do not have any clear evidence for this.
1) Maybe the dead were raised again after the meat had rotted. Then the skulls were nailed to the stake and buried for the second time. Such a practice was once practiced in another Mesolithic site found in Sweden.
2) Maybe they were killed by the enemy in a battle. Later their skulls were crucified and brought as a memento.
