1337 - (656 AH) Caliph Mansur lays the foundations of Baghdad.

1535 - First English Bible is printed.

1813 - Lord Moira is appointed Governor General of Bengal.

1830 - Belgium declares independence.

1855 - The Widow Marriage Act was introduced under the initiative and leadership of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar.

18 - Emerald Theater is established in Calcutta.

1911 - London's first subway station is opened to the public.

1956 - University students in the former Soviet Union successfully launch the first artificial satellite, Sputnik-1, into space, ushering in a period of human control over space.

1956 - Regular flights begin across the Atlantic.

1959 - Soviet spacecraft Lunik-3 takes the first close-up of the moon.

1973 - Zambia gains full autonomy.

1983 - Storm surges across the Caribbean. The storm submerged all the islands and port equipment in the Caribbean Sea in the Atlantic Ocean. The speed of this terrible storm was 150 kilometers per hour. About 6,000 people died in the storm. Most of the dead were Haitians and Cubans.

196 - Lesotho gains independence from British rule.

1989 - Bangladesh's trade agreement with Yugoslavia is concluded.

1992 - A bloody prison riot in Brazil. 111 prisoners were killed.

2002 - King Gyanendra of Nepal fires Sher Bahadur Deuba, acting prime minister, and takes over the executive branch.

1989 - Dakota Johnson, American model and actress.
