How to bounce back from a job rejection.

I know how hard it can be to land a job. It's one of the most competitive things you can do, and with not enough jobs out there for all the qualified people looking, some are bound to get left without work. When this happens, whether it's because your boss doesn't like you or your company has been sold, you need to have a plan in place so that you don't end up staying unemployed for long. Here are some ways to prepare yourself so that if this disaster does happen, you're ready!

1) Research other companies and their hiring process:

If you find an opening at another company before yours is closed down, make sure to apply as soon as possible. Even if they reject your application initially, you can always try applying again after they've hired someone. Filling out applications and doing interviews takes time, so make sure to look into that of your possible new employer.

2) Make a list of goals:

When you get rejected from one job, it's easy to feel defeated or depressed about the whole thing. However, I've found that writing down everything you want in a job makes it much easier to move on when you don't get that particular position. When writing this list, be very specific. The more personal this is for you, the better it'll work when looking for jobs later on! Also remember to include side-goals like wanting a flexible schedule or being close to home instead of in an office full-time.

3) Get a job doing something related to your original field:

If you're rejected from the one job you applied for, getting another in the same industry can help ease the pain. At least this way, you won't have to start at square 1 when it comes to networking or dealing with interviews. Connections like this can be very helpful when searching for other jobs later on.

4) Find ways to occupy yourself:

After being turned down, it's easy to feel like you need some time off and that applying for more jobs is unproductive (or even annoying). However, boredom will only lead to depression if left unchecked, so make sure to take up hobbies or do things outside of work that bring you joy! It'll help you feel better about the situation, which is important when trying to find another job.

5) Make sure your resume and cover letter stay up-to-date:

Even if you're not actively looking for a job, make sure these two things are always ready to go! It'll save you time in the long run if you're forced to apply quickly instead of having to create new ones from scratch. Include everything that's relevant in terms of experience on your resume, and make sure your cover letter has been proofread many times over so that there are no spelling or grammar errors.

6) Volunteer:

I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but volunteering can be a really good way to keep yourself busy during this time. Not only will it help keep you occupied and active, but you may also learn new skills that make your resume stronger. Try getting involved in charitable organizations or schools if possible. Remember to mention these on your resume!

These are just some quick tips for the unfortunate people who end up jobless due to mistakes made by others. I hope they're helpful, and good luck with whatever you're aiming for!
