What is it Like Being an Adult?

This is a post I have been thinking about writing for a long time; however, today it became apparent that this was the perfect day to write such an article.

So what is it like being an adult?

Well, if we look at the dictionary: an adult is a fully developed person from maturity onward. If you are an adult, you have accepted responsibility for yourself and your dependents.

To me, being an adult means being someone who takes care of their responsibilities. Responsibilities can be anything from pay bills, cleaning the house, go to work. These are the basic responsibilities; however, as an adult, you will have to take on more responsibility.

I am currently living on my own and work full time doing something that I love(full-time Blogger). This is not possible without being responsible. The bills that I pay every month are just one of my major responsibilities. Another big responsibility is having money for food in the fridge so I do not starve myself to death (not really).

Not everything about being an adult sucks though. One reason why life kicks ass when you become an adult is because you get your freedom back! You can go out whenever you want, stay up all night if you want, or binge-watch whatever series you feel like watching for hours upon hours until your eyeballs fall out from exhaustion.

Sometimes being an adult is amazing, but there are days where it sucks. You have to deal with so many responsibilities that you feel overwhelmed or you just do not want to go through the day. Just because I am living on my own does not mean it is easy, so please do not think of me as someone who lives the perfect life.

I am making assumptions here about age, but perhaps this definition of adulthood could apply to anyone, no matter their age.

That being said, there are some things that I think every young adult should know about before they take the plunge into real life for good!

Here are ten things you need to know if you want your 20s (or 30s) to turn out well: Early Adult Stage

1) Choose Your Friends Wisely

It's easy to see the good in everyone. That's why it can be so hard to leave old friendships behind when you start college or begin a new job. As an adult, however, you have to prioritize your own happiness above everything else. So choose your friends well and make sure their priorities are closely aligned with yours. If not, it's time to go your separate ways.

2) Never Stop Learning

It's so easy to think about yourself as an adult, which can be dangerous because you start making decisions based on what you think is right -- not necessarily on what you know or have learned. If your parents are encouraging you to take classes again, don't dismiss the idea until you fully understand why they want you to go. It's likely that the whole family will benefit from your continued education in some way.

3) Make Decisions Based On Your Own Wants And Needs

This is difficult because it's so easy to get caught up around other people's expectations, but both men and women have to be brutally honest with themselves about what will truly make them happy. If it means giving up some things for a while, do it. If it means leaving old friends, loved ones, or even cities behind, then do that too. You've got your whole life ahead of you!

4) Never Settle For Anything Less Than What You Deserve Because That Will Only Lead To Regret And Anxiety

You know the old saying: you deserve the best, so don't settle for anything less than what would make you happy as a person. You have to take care of yourself first before being able to truly take care of someone else. Even if it's hard now, it's always better to have shown yourself some respect and waited until he or she came along instead of settling just because no one has ever made you feel this way before.

5) Don't Overspend Your Money On Things That Don't Bring You The Most Joy In Life

If you're making a purchase that doesn’t bring you joy, then stop buying things altogether! Basic items like food, transportation, and clothing are necessary in every adult’s life, so you can’t avoid spending money on them. However, save up for the things that really matter to you and splurge when it's appropriate. This way, you won't end up feeling like a slave to your finances or regretting all of your purchases later on.

6) Don't Forget To Have Fun!

Young adults tend to feel like they need to get their lives completely together before they can reward themselves with anything fun and exciting -- and while it's great not to be wasteful with money and time, there's no reason why you can't have fun now either. If one of your friends is planning a girls' night out or if your boyfriend wants to go out for dinner just because, then do it! Enjoying life is part of being an adult too.

Basic responsibilities apply to every adults, then the more important responsibilities depend on the circumstances: having a baby, dealing with a teenager or building a career whatever the case may be.

Regarding friendship. I have to say I am lucky with my friends I have. I have friends for nearly 40 years now. It means, that they are my friends since elementary school. Not the type of "friends" who add you to their social media and never talk to you. They are real friends.
