Mesut Ozil (German pronunciation: [̞ˈmeːzut ˈøːzil], Turkish: [me̞ˈsut ˈø̞zil]; born October 1986) is a German footballer who plays for Premier League club Arsenal and the German national football team. Ozil has been playing for the German age group since 2006 and the German national football team since 2009. Through his performances at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, he was able to attract the attention of the international football community and was nominated for the Golden Ball Award, which is given to the best player of the tournament. Ozil began his senior career in 2006 in the Bundesliga with his hometown club, Charles 04. He moved to Werder Bremen in 2006 and was impressed by Real Madrid's performance at the 2010 World Cup.
