Chaplin spent his childhood in extreme poverty and hardship in London. Due to his father's absence and his mother's lack of money, he was sent to work in a workshop twice before he was nine years old. When he was 14, his mother was sent to an insane asylum. Chaplin has toured various theaters in England as a child artist since his childhood and later began acting as a stage actor and comedian. At the age of 19, he signed a contract with the famous Fred Carno Company, which took him on a tour of the United States. Chaplin joined the Hollywood film industry there and began acting on the big screen in 1914 for Keystone Studios. He soon became known as The Trump, a vagabond of his own making, and gained a large following. Charlotte is wearing a tight coat, big pants, big shoes, a bowler hat on her head, a cane in her hand and a unique toothbrush mustache. Chaplin directed his films from the beginning and later continued to direct on behalf of Esan, Mutual and First National Corporation. By 1918, he had become one of the world's most famous personalities. [2]

In 1919, he co-founded United Artists, a distribution company, which gave him complete control over his films. His first full-length film was The Kid (1921), followed by A Woman of Paris (1923), The Gold Rush (1925) and The Circus (1928). In the 1930s, he turned down offers to make talk films and was acclaimed for producing Silent City Lights (1931) and Modern Times (1936). Chaplin became overly political in his next film, The Great Dictator (1940), and satirized Adolf Hitler. The controversy over Chaplin began in the 1940's and his popularity continued to decline. He was accused of being sympathetic to the Socialists, and during the paternity lawsuit against him, negative propaganda was launched against him for marrying another young woman. When the FBI began investigating him, he left the United States and moved to Switzerland, where he settled. He abandoned his Trump identity in his later films and made films such as Monsieur Verdu (1948), Limelight (1952), A King in New York (1956) and A Countess from Hong Kong (198).

Chaplin, one of the most original and influential figures of the silent film era, acted in his own films, writing, directing, producing and even directing screenplays and dialogues. He tried to keep all his films flawless and because of his financial freedom he could spend more time developing a film story and making films. His films contained slapstick humor with the tragic juices of The Trump's struggle with hostility. A few films had social and political themes and a few had autobiographical elements. When Chaplin's work was re-recognized, he was awarded the Academy Honorary Prize in 1982 for "his immense influence in making this century's film an art form." For her contributions to the arts, she was knighted by the French government in 1981, the commander of the Legion d'Or, and Queen Elizabeth II in 1985. Even after his death, Chaplin remains immortal with his films The Gold Rush, City Lights, Modern Times and The Great Dictator. These films are often seen as the best films of all time in the US.

Childhood editing

Charles Spencer Chaplin was born on April 17, 189. [3] His father was Charles Chaplin Sr. and mother was Hannah Chaplin (born Hannah Harriet Pedlingham Hill). No valid birth certificate has been found for Charlie Chaplin, so there is some ambiguity about his birth. The media has given various information about his birthplace at different times. But according to Chaplin, he was born on East Street in Walworth, south London. [4] [a] His parents married four years before his birth, making him the legal guardian of Sidney John Hill, the illegitimate child of Chaplin Sr. Hannah. [6] [b] At the time of his birth, both his parents were deeply involved in the stage. Hannah was the daughter of a shoemaker. [6] Her stage name was Lily Hurley. His stage career was short-lived and unsuccessful. [9] Chaplin's father, Charles Sr., was the son of a butcher. [10] He was a popular lyric singer. [11] Although Chaplin's parents did not divorce, they separated in 1891. The following year, Hannah gave birth to her third child. The father of his third child, George Wheeler Dryden, was Leo Dryden, a lyricist. The baby George was taken away by his father when he was six months old, and he had no contact with the chaplain for the next 30 years. [13]

Chaplin's childhood was marked by extreme poverty and hardship. [14] He spent his childhood in Kennington with his mother Hannah and brother Sydney. [15] No. Due to extreme poverty, Chaplin was sent to work at the Lambeth workshop when he was seven years old. [C] The Southwark Council sent him to the Central London District School because of his poverty. Chaplin described the situation as a "neglected lifetime." [18] After 18 months, he stayed with his mother for a few days, and in July 1897, Hannah sent him back to the workshop. Charlie and Sydney were then sent to another institute, the Norwood School for Poor Children. [17]

In September 1896, Hannah was admitted to Ken Hill Mental Hospital. His mental health deteriorated due to syphilis and malnutrition. [19] He was there for two months. At this point Chaplin and Sydney were sent to their father. They did not know their father very well. [20] As a result, they were taken to the National Society of Cruelty to Children. [21] Chaplin's father died of hepatitis two years later at the age of 36. [22]

Hannah was briefly discharged from the hospital, but fell ill again in May 1903. [21] At the time, 14-year-old Chaplin took his mother back to the Hill. [23] Chaplin was alone for a few days, wandering around in search of food. The place spent the night. At that time, he returned to Sydney, which had joined the Navy two years earlier. [24] Eight months later, Hannah was released from the psychiatric hospital, [25] but fell ill again in March 1905, and this time remained permanently. Chaplin later wrote, "We had nothing to do but accept Mother's tragic fate." He remained in nursing until his death in 1928. [26]

Teenage actor editing

The teenage chaplain performed Sherlock Holmes stage play from 1903 to 1906.

He was doing poorly at school and when his mother also began to succumb to mental illness, Chaplin began performing on stage. When she was later taken from Hannah to Aldershot one night, she performed on the first stage when she was five years old. [D] It was an isolated incident, but when she was nine, she became interested in acting at the urging of her mother. She later wrote, "[Mother] inspired me to say that I had some talent." [26] Due to her father's acquaintance, [29] she became a member of the Clog dance troupe at Eight Lancashire Ladd's. With this group he toured various English lyric stages in 1899 and 1900. [e] Chaplin worked hard and the dance drama became popular. But Chaplin was not satisfied with his own dance and wanted to play a comedian. [31]

While Chaplin was touring as a member of the popular Eight Lancashire Lads, his mother confirmed his attendance at school. [32] He dropped out of school at the age of 13. [33] When his mother fell ill again at the age of 14, he enrolled on a stage in the West End of London. The playwright flared up his talent and gave him his first job as a newspaper distributor at Harry Arthur Stsbury's Gym, A Romance of Cocaine. [35] Goes. Several critics praised Chaplin's humorous performance. [36]

Stsbury later offered him a role in Charles Frohmann's play Sherlock Holmes. [36] He played the role of newspaper distributor Billy and went on three tours around the country. Her performance was so acclaimed that she was invited to work with William Gillette on the original Sherlock Holmes play. [F] Chaplin recalls, "It sounded like news to me from heaven." At the age of 18, Chaplin starred in the West End play. The play was staged at the Duke of York Theater from October to December 1905. [39]

Stage comedy and vadevil editing

After the tour was over, Chaplin quickly got a job at a new company and went on a tour with his brother on behalf of that company. His brother also chose a form of sketch comedy called Repairs. [41] Chaplin joined the infamous Casey's Circus in May 1906. [42] By the time the play was completed in July 1908, the 18-year-old Chaplin had become a full-fledged comedian. [43] He later struggled to find another job, and one of his solo attempts failed. [44]

Meanwhile, Sidney Chaplin joined the famed Fred Carno Company in 1908, and by 1908 he had become their lead actor. [45] In February, he arranged a two-week part-time performance for his younger brother.Edited by United Artists and Mildred Harris

After the release of the Soldier Arms, Chaplin asked First National for more money, but First National refused. Chaplin was disappointed by their lack of interest in the quality of the film, and was somewhat alarmed to hear rumors of the company being associated with Famous Players-Lesky, launching a new distribution company with Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and DW Griffith. The new company, United Artists, was launched in January 1919. [119] The organization revolutionized the film industry, with all four partners being creative artists, financing their films and gaining complete control over their own films. [120] He was keen to start working for the new company and offered to pay First National for their contract. First National rejected the offer and chased him to make the remaining six films. [121]

Chaplin was first married before the founding of the United Artists. He first met 17-year-old actress Mildred Harris at a party in Samuel Goldwyn. A few days later, Harris informs Chaplin that he has Chaplin's child in his womb. Rather than engage in any controversy, Chaplin married Harris in Los Angeles in September 1918. [122] He later learned that the news of Harris' pregnancy was false. [123] Chaplin was unhappy with the marriage, and began to think that the marriage Disrupted creativity. As a result, she had to make great strides in the making of the film Sunside. [124] Harris conceived her child and gave birth to a son on July 7, 1919. His son Norman Spencer Chaplin died in just three days. [125] They divorced in April 1920, and Chaplin wrote in his autobiography
