Glimpse.cash the You tube of Crypto
Let's start with the idea of a Youtube without ads. One where creators get paid what they want per view for their videos. Videos don't get demonetized leaving the creators in a rough spot. That is what Glimpse.cash is trying to be, with the help of bitcoin cash.
Glimpse is already set up with all the essentials: creators can upload videos, get paid per view in real time, can set up streams and viewers can tip as they like. But how does it all work?
Watching Videos
Go to Glimpse.cash and click on a video. On the home page there will be plenty to choose from. Each video will have a coloured bar underneath them to show the price to view. Don't worry, there are also free videos to try out.
Video Pricing
The standard pricing is meant to be quite low. The ideal is that watchers add some money to the account, and can sit browsing comfortably without ads. The reason the price can be set is because the amount of effort to make different videos is... well different. The guy making a hand animated short film for the last 6 months should charge more than the guy making 5, 10 minute gaming clips a day. At the end of the day the watches get what they pay for.
I also want to mention that the price is set per video so that one channel might have a few free videos to promote their work while charging for all the others.
Other features
While the core of Glimpse is the videos, there is a lot more to it than just that. The live video stream technology was developed from scratch. The effort was made to make the payments instant from the watcher straight to the creator. There is a feature to upload files that can be accessed with the videos. Videos can be watched and posted Anonymously. There is a sister site (gaze.cash) that shares videos but also contains a NSFW section. And I'm sure more that I'm forgetting right now.
Where Glimpse now stands
As I've said, Glimpse is fully up and running. However it's facing what I call a chicken vs the egg problem. Creators want to post videos where there are lots of viewers and viewers gather where there are lots of videos. This makes it tricky to get either of them to stick. If anybody knows of a way to fix this let me know.
(Thanks for reading my Article on Glimpse. I am part of the developer team that made it, although I did little more than the shiny icon in the top left. If there are any questions I'll answer them the best I can. For now I'm glad I got to talk about some of the thoughts that went into making it. Even though it was made about 3 years ago, I still believe in the ideas behind it, now if only I had any skills in marketing whatsoever...)
