Have you ever wondered why cats and dogs have wet noses? Can it sometimes be dry? Or is it a sign of being healthy?
One reason that cat and dog noses are wet is because pets like them like to lick their noses often. It moistens the nose and keeps the wet feeling. It also enhances their sense of smell. It's their way to capture scent particles and allows them to get a better handle on where a scent is coming from. For example, it may wet its nose more frequently if it's hunting something. Remember that for dogs and cats, their noses are their eyes. Their sense of smell is one of the most important ways that they experience the world. Also, it is just one sign of wellness. And it helps them keep cool. So a wet nose is normal. But a dry nose isn't necessarily abnormal. Why? Sometimes dogs and cats have a dry nose naturally. Many people think that a healthy dog or cat has a cool wet nose and a sick pup or kitty has a warm dry one. However, it can sometimes be a sign of dehydration. But the actual temperature and moistness of a nose is not a good indicator of overall health status. Or on occasion, you will find a healthy pet with a warm dry nose. It's because they don't lick their nose as often, or secrete as much mucous. Also, it may have a dry nose when it sleeps.
But whatever it is.. your dog or cat can't exactly tell you when they're feeling unwell. So it's up to you to read the signs and be able to identify symptoms. Know exactly what your pet needs and give it right away when they need it. 😊👍
