6-year-old Kartik cries in his hospital bed, begging his parents to take him home. “We will all go back soon, beta. Just a few more days.” His mother, Poonam says.
However, this is far from the truth. The boy urgently needs treatment to save him from liver failure. Without it, he has no chance of returning home.
“Kartik’s stomach is so swollen, I’m afraid it’ll burst any minute. I can’t even imagine the amount of pain he is in.” Poonam says. “On top of that, he hates being in the hospital- all the harsh lights and needles scare him.”
Diagnosed with liver failure, Kartik needs a liver transplant as soon as possible to save his life. His mother has matched as a donor, and will also need to undergo surgery to help her son.
The total cost of the procedure will be Rs 20 lakh ($ 26934.04).
“I remember when Kartik first fell sick- we took him to the local doctor who said he had pneumonia. We followed all his instructions to make sure Kartik recovered soon.”
The local doctor asked Kartik’s parents to continue his medication until he was completely fine. Yet, even after months, Kartik complained of weakness and exhaustion, and his eyes began to turn a pale yellow.
Then one day, he fell unconscious at home.
Kartik’s parents immediately rushed him to the hospital, where his tests revealed that he was suffering from liver failure.
Since then, he regularly has to undergo procedures to drain the fluid from his abdomen.
His parents have been trying their best to save up enough to afford his transplant, but the expense is beyond their means- as a housewife and auto driver, there is no way they can arrange Rs 20 lakh ($ 26934.04).
Having spent all their savings, they are now at a total loss. Your donations are the only chance this little boy has for survival.
