Things to remember when you are in UK

1)Ireland as a part of UK

Since UK is a great tourist destination,sometimes tourist make this mistake and they think that Ireland and UK are the same country.But the fact is Ireland and Northern Ireland are two different countries.

Only Northern Ireland is the part of UK,not the whole Ireland.A lot of tourist didn't know this,I also didn't know the fact.They become confused.So when you are visiting UK,keep this simple detail in mind that only Northern Ireland is the part of UK. Don't confuse with the Irish people and British people.

2)Football or Soccer?

We all know that there is two type of English.One is British English accent and the other is American English accent.There are tons of words that means the different in British and American English.

Say you are in a restaurant of UK,you wan to eat Potato Chips.

When you are making your order you have to say "Crisp" .

Outside UK,people narrates "Potato chips" as "French Fries".Though both are the same thing but as you are in Britain,you have to say as they say.Its "Crisp" in Britain and "French Fries" outside Britain.

Same goes to Football and soccer.When you are in Britain, talking about games it's good to say Football.

It's a bit confusing for the people who talks in American English!

3)Know the difference between UK and Great Britain

Before going to UK,first you need to know the difference between these two. People thought that these two are the same country.But the truth is no this is not.

UK is Island,that is consisted of four countries.These are England,Scotland,Northern Ireland and Wales.

On the other hand great Britain means England, Scotland and Wales.

So keep in mind that Northern Ireland is not a part of Great Britain and the full meaning of UK is United Kingdom of Britain and Northern Ireland.

4)When you are writing a date

In few countries, people write dates with putting the months name first then the date.

Like this December 23

But in UK, you need to put the date first than the month.

Like this 23 December

If you write date in wrong format it can create a lot of confusion and misunderstanding too.

Keep in mind that first date then month.

5)Giving tips to the bartender

This things are quite normal giving tips to the bartender in a lot of countries.But when you are in UK,try to avoid tipping the bartender or waiter.They do not practice tipping that's why you tip it can hurt his self-respect.
