Kindness that gives goosebumps
January 27, 2022
When supertyphoon hit Southern Leyte leaving the province with no electricity and mobile signal, Ormoc City paved the way for Southern Leyteño's to be the first in line at the ATM's, supermarkets and other money- receiving counters. It gives me goosebumps when I think that the Ormocanons can only withdraw money late at night because they gave way for us. We can only say thank you but our heart is full, tearful and thankful for the gesture and kindness. Kindness doesn't cost that much.
When problems pile up but your vision isn't blurred yet. You can still see the silver lining and appreciate the good things. You can still smile and hope for better days.
Smile. It only takes fifteen muscles to smile, sixty-five when you frown. There are a million and one reasons to complain and rant about everything but it takes a sympathetic and compassionate heart to just breath and let go. When we would always think of ranting and complaining, some things won't turn out to be better. In fact, it will only make things worst because you cannot think of better ways to solve problems and contemplate well. Your heart will be filled with anger and remorse. You will only radiate negativity.
The wrath of supertyphoon Odette and the many negative effects it brought in our society has made me bitter. Bitter about the government, bitter for people who won't help but has means to help and bitter to people who remained unmoved.
But these days I realized that my negativities won't do me any good. It would just poison my mental health and affect my disposition towards life. What happened during and after supertyphoon Odette was just some of the various reactions of people who we can call as victims. Businessmen may increase the price of the goods they sell. They can take advantage of the high demands of their supply. We can only complain but at the end of the day, we still buy because it is a necessity. For them, business is still business and in this time of crisis, this is the best way to make their business thrive. Our landlady still wants us to pay rent for the whole month of December eventhough we weren't there half of the month. She said that it is because our things are still there. However, she didn't hastened us to pay our dues. She says that she will wait for us until we get money to pay our bills. Our landlady is a businesswoman. How to profit is what is in her mind however she still tries to be compassionate to us by extending the deadline of our payment dues. Kindness still resides in her heart.
I don't know how to end this article and I dont know either how I ended up writing this kind of article. At first, I was just stunned at how people showed kindness these days. Eventhough there are a lot more of negatives, still some people remained to be in the light to ease some burden of other people.

Thank you for reading. Until then!
Everything that we do has its positive and negatives. But when thinking of only negatives it can ruin our health on the whole. So better not to lose our smile so that we dont lose hope.
