WHO can solve the landmine problem? As we have seen, human endeavors cannot eliminate hatred, intolerance, and greed. However, Bible students realize that the Creator can offer a permanent solution. But how do you do that
Building a peaceful society
Wars are made by people, not weapons. If we are to see peace, the hatred that divides humanity into racial, tribal and national groups must be eliminated. God promises to do this through His Kingdom, for which millions of people around the world have learned to pray (Matthew 6: 9,10).
The Bible speaks of Jehovah as "the God who gives peace". (Romans 15:33) The peace God offers is not based on prohibitions and treaties, nor on fear of retaliation from a well-armed hostile nation. On the contrary, God-given peace involves changes in people's thinking and attitudes toward others.
Jehovah God will educate the meek in their ways of peace. (Psalm 25: 9) His word, the Bible, promises a time when all living "will be taught by Jehovah and the peace of his children will be abundant". (Isaiah 54:13) To some extent, this is already happening. All over the world, Jehovah's Witnesses are known for promoting peace between people from different backgrounds. People who learn the noble principles of the Bible seek to live in unity regardless of the subjects that would otherwise separate them. Bible education completely changes the way you view hatred of love. --John 13:34, 35. 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8.
In addition to education, the need for global cooperation has long been seen as a key element in arms disposal. For example, the International Committee of the Red Cross recommends that the international community work together to promote preventive and curative measures to combat the threat of landmines.
Jehovah promises to do much more. The prophet Daniel foretold: “The God of heaven will establish a kingdom that will never be ruined. . . . He will destroy and destroy all these [existing] kingdoms and remain indefinitely ”- Daniel 2:44.
The kingdom of God will achieve what man cannot. For example, Psalm 46: 9 says prophetically: “He [Jehovah] makes wars stop until the ends of the world. Break the bow and cut the spear into pieces; Tanks burn with fire. “The kingdom of God will provide an environment in which man can truly enjoy peace with his Creator and those around him (Isaiah 2: 4; Zephaniah 3: 9; Revelation 21: 3, 4; 22: 2).
Augusto, mentioned in the introduction to the previous article, finds solace in this biblical message. (Mark 3: 1-5) Of course today he must endure the painful effects of the landmine explosion that transformed him. Even so, Augustus is waiting for the day when God's promise of a heavenly earth will come true. "At that time," the prophet Isaiah foretold, "the eyes of the blind will be opened and." . . In this coming paradise, landmines will no longer pose a threat to life and members. Instead, people living all over the world will live in safety. The prophet Micah described it this way: “For they will sit down, everyone under his vineyard and under his fig tree, and there will be no one to make them tremble; for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken.
