In the province I live in, we have animals whose existence is very threatened, or can be said to be almost extinct. This is caused by human activities that damage their habitat and now they are very difficult to find. Here are 3 endangered animals that we have.

1. Orang utan

From you, you must know this primate. Their existence is currently very threatened in their natural habitat. Because the forest they live in today has been destroyed a lot. This irresponsible person destroys the forest to take the wood and also used it as a place to dig coal. As a result, their ecosystem is very disturbed and as a result they are very difficult to find food. And in the end they entered the farmers' fields and ate the farmers' crops. The orangutans who eat the farmers' crops are very unlucky, they are killed by angry farmers because they have damaged the fields. And they are also hunted by poachers to be sold live on the black market or for their body parts.

2. Burung Enggang/Hornbills

This bird does come from the African continent, but this bird has also spread widely to Southeast Asia, especially in my city. This hornbill is also used as a symbol by a tribe called the Dayak tribe. Previously, this bird was hunted by the Dayak tribe itself for its feathers and it is said that this hornbill saliva has properties to heal burns and stab wounds. But it has been forbidden by their traditional leaders so that the population does not decrease. But this bird is hunted by hunters and also hunted by poachers to take its cranium to be used as decoration and sold on the black market alive or dead.

3. Pesut Mahakam

This is a freshwater mammal that is an icon of the city I live in. The dolphin is still in the same family as the dolphin, it's just that its body shape is different from the dolphins we usually see. The cause of Mahakam dolphins becoming extinct is not because of poaching, but the existence of pontoon boats carrying coal that often pass by. They die from being hit by the usual ship or they die from being hit by the ship's propeller. Because the river water is very cloudy which causes their view to be limited. And another cause that has a very extraordinary impact is the garbage that is thrown carelessly into the river which causes them to die.

Because their food is very limited, so they eat everything that is washed away by the river. And for the population, in 2017 only 41 individuals remained. And in 2021, it is reported that at least 8 Mahakam dolphins were found dead in the upper river.

Their population is increasingly under threat now.
