What is CONFIDENTIALITY?

This is a state of keeping secret private. It is a way of keeping another person's information private. is one of the attributes of a counselor as it is considered very important in counseling ethics. Some professionals are required by law to keep a person's information intact and private. 

You need to be trusted not to divulge another person's information or leak it out without taking permission from such a person. This will totally jeopardize your reputation as a counselor and also put your profession at stake. It is always good to be confidential as it increases your level of respect and dignity around people. You do not have a right to expose someone's secret especially the one he or she never wants to leak out.During the counseling session, a counselee loves to see some elements of trustworthiness from the counselor and if such a counselor isn't up to that standard, he or she is considered as an irresponsible personality in the profession. Not only in the counseling unit but wherever you find yourself, whatsoever secret you are not made to expose, keep it confidential.

We have;
1. Legal Confidentiality: This is whereby a lawyer is required to keep his or her client's secret.

2. Medical Confidentiality: This is where doctors are required not to disclose their patient's information unless such person is ready to lose his or her job. 

3. Banking Confidentiality: This is done in the bank and client's information and details must be kept safe and out of reach from people
