Luzon refers to one of the largest and most important islands of the Philippines, named after the North Philippines (Northern) and one of the three islands of the country (Visayas and Mindanao are the other two).
As an island, Luzon is the largest island of the Philippines with 104,688 square kilometers and is also the 17th largest island in the world. Here lies the country's capital, Manila, and the most populous city, Quezon City.
The island is mountainous and here lies Mount Pulag, the second highest mountain in the country, and Mayon Volcano, the most famous volcano. To the west of the island is the South China Sea, to the east the Philippine Sea, and to the north the Central Strait.
The island group referred to as the West includes Luzon with the Batanes and Babuyan groups to the north, the Catanduanes, Marinduque, Masbate, Romblon, Mindoro and Palawan islands to the south. The island group is divided into eight regions and 38 provinces.

The island is located on Mount Pulag, the third highest mountain in the country, and the Pinatubo Mountains, Mayon Volcano, Long Range Volcano , are some of the most famous volcanoes in Luzon. To the west of the Luzon is the West Philippine Sea, to the east is the Philippine Sea, and to the north is the Strait of Luzon.
Island of Luzon is almost rectangular and has a long southeastern slope called the Bicycle Peninsula. The northern part of the island is surrounded by large mountains, the Cordillera Central.
To the east of the Cordillera Central is the large Cagayan Valley, which serves as the catcher, of the Cagayan River, the longest river in the Philippines. To the east of the valley lies the mountain of Sierra Madre, the longest mountain in the country. To the south east of the Look of Manila lies the largest lake in the country, and the largest lake within the Southeast Asian region, the Lake of the Bay.
