Registered members of the site can add many types of content to the site such as links , text posts and images, which are then voted for or against other members. Posts are organized by topic into user-generated panels called " subreddits ," which cover a variety of topics such as news, politics, science, movies , video games, music, books, sports, fitness, cooking , pets, and photo sharing. Posts with more louder votes appear at the top of the subredditTheir own, and if they get enough votes, it will eventually appear on the site's homepage. Despite strict rules prohibiting harassment, Reddit officials spend significant resources moderating the site.
As of October 2020 , Reddit was ranked 17th most visited site in the world and seventh most visited in the United States , according to Alexa Internet , with 40.9% of its user base coming from the United States , followed by the United States.
