Steady growth is all I need

Are you curious how much money can be made from writing online? I certainly am! Today I am going to share my October earnings from writing.

Maybe you are a writer yourself, or maybe you are just curious. But if you clicked on the title, this will probably be interesting to you!

Recap

Last month I wrote my first-ever writing earnings report. I joined the $100 club on Medium. Ever since I started writing on Medium I have read stories that only about 6% of writers earn more than $100 every month. I don’t know if it’s true. But it feels nice to be above the threshold.

In September I made a grand total of $174.14 from writing online.

And I set myself a goal of earning over $200 in October.

Did I beat September earnings?

Yes, I Did!

Did I achieve my goal of earning over $200?

Also yes!

Let’s dig into the numbers.

October Earnings

During the month of October, I published 18 articles on Medium. It’s a little bit less than the previous month.

Here you can see my stats for the last 30 days:

The black dots resemble the days on which I published an article. I am using a chrome extension Medium Enhanced Stats for this.

My total earnings for the month: $219.10

I am seeing steady growth and hope that I can keep this trend going.

Part of this income comes from affiliate income. I currently have 9 referrals here on Medium and I will keep getting paid $19.91 each month for as long as their subscriptions are running.

The referral income has also been growing steadily and I hope I can get some more referrals in November.

Best performing stories of the month:

1. I Turned My Medium Stories Into YouTube Videos and You Can Too!

$61.74 in October, $147.26 in total

2. Creative Ways People Used Midjourney.AI and You Can Too

$28.55 in October, $67.58 in total

3.Free AI Tool That Creates Short Illustrated Stories

$14.81 in October, $22.90 in total

I have also made some additional money from reposting my articles on other writing platforms, and from affiliate marketing.

Other Platforms

I mainly focus on writing on Medium and simply repost my articles on these platforms. I don’t earn a lot there. But it takes little to no effort to repost and I grow my audience.

Here are the earnings:

Read.cash: $8.42

Publish0x: $6.67

Hive: $0.51

Total: $15.6

Affiliate Marketing

I am not focusing on this heavily, but I see a huge potential to earn more using affiliate marketing. I believe that this is one of the top monetization sources for creators.

Excluding referrals on Medium, I have only used one other affiliate program. And it is for an AI-powered video editing tool. The tool is called Pictory.AI (affiliate link), and here is the story I promoted it with.

Earnings in October: $36.64

And as I published this story back in July, this truly feels like a passive source of income.

Grand Total

My total income from writing online for the month of October is:

$271.34

It’s nowhere near a full-time income. But it does feel nice. And I hope I can keep up the steady growth.

My goal for the next month is to cross $300 in earnings from writing.

Closing thoughts

Writing online is not easy. It requires consistency. Being willing to work. And writing even when you don’t want to.

But it is also great. Because you get to cover topics you love, learn a lot while you are at it, and get paid along the way. And the longer you keep at it, the better you get.

Feel free to ask questions if you have any and…

Stay curious and stay HungryMinded!

You did great in October. As for Hive, I started writing there only recently, but I think you could do better if your articles are written for Hive and posted there first. They don't appreciate the reposts much.

You are probably right. But I don't really enjoy hive that much. And for now, I think my attention will be better spent focusing elsewhere.
