Creative Ways People Used Midjourney.AI and You Can Too
Much more than just cool pictures

If you are interested in Artificial Intelligence you are probably already familiar with AI-powered image generation tools like Midjourney, openAI’s DALL-E2, and Dream Studio.
But what you might not know is how to use these tools for some real-life applications. I have roamed the internet to find some of the most creative ways this groundbreaking technology is already being used. And I have tried some things myself.
Let’s dig in.
1. Creating a Graphic Novel illustrated by Midjourney AI
This user on Reddit created a visual Sci-Fi novel, illustrated entirely by Midjourney AI. You can make comics, illustrate digital planers, or other products. Let your imagination go wild. And let the AI inspire you.
Check out more about this Sci-Fi novel on the original Reddit post.
Not only is the book in question on Amazon’s list of Sci-Fi bestsellers among Star Wars, Blade Runner, and alike. But it’s also currently available on kindle for free. If you think you could create a visual novel or a comic, check it out for inspiration.

2. Create animations
The cool thing about these tools is that you can create countless variations for the same image. This makes it very good for creating stop-motion-type animations.
Here you can see how this Reddit user 80 variations of 2 portraits to create a stunning animation.
Inspired by this I made my own. I fed Midjourney with a prompt of my Medium username HungryMinded, and created about 40 variations of an image I liked.
Then I used Adobe Premiere Pro to turn the static images into a short video. I am sure, you could use about any video editing software out there to achieve this. And exported the video as mp4.
After that, I simply googled mp4 to gif converter and used the first one I found. Here’s the result.

Here is a list of creative ways to use AI image generation created by AI.
Create AI-generated images of people or animals to use as avatars in online games or social media platforms.
Use AI to generate images of customized products, such as shoes or clothing, to help sell those products online.
Use AI to generate images of people or animals to be used as part of a marketing campaign.
Use AI to generate images of people or animals to be used as part of a charity or awareness campaign.
Use AI to generate images of people or animals to be used as part of an educational campaign.
Here is the tool I used to generate this list.
Let’s get back to it!
3. Using AI to design levels for a game
An indie game developer used AI-generated images to design the levels for his game. Not only do these images work great as static backdrops for the levels, and images to set the mood.
This developer also used images created by AI as special rewards you can receive while progressing in the game.
AI can also be used as inspiration for actual paths on a level. In this case, the game involves a lot of labyrinths. Designing a labyrinth from scratch could be a time-consuming task. But AI could provide a ready-to-go framework. Here’s an output I got by simply inputting labyrinth as a prompt into Midjourney AI:

While not perfect by any means. This could help as a basic framework or inspiration. But this was the first output I generated. By tweaking the text input, you could come up with a lot better result.
Here is a video of the game developer explaining how he used AI on his game
4. Using AI for video effects
Here is a video that goes into detail on how AI-generated images can be great as idea starters for video effects. Not only that though. These images can serve exceptionally well as otherworldly environments. See more here
5. Inspiration for artists
We might have entered a new age of mood boards, storyboards, and idea generation overall. The days of being uninspired are over. You can simply input some gibberish into these AI tools and get inspired. And let me tell you it feels quite addictive.
This artist explains how she uses AI as an inspiration for her artworks. She covers both the strengths and weaknesses of AI image generation tools.

6. How I used AI
Ever since I came across these tools I have been fascinated with them and their potential use cases. Here’s how I've been using AI image generation so far.
1.Generating logo ideas for my band. I currently don’t wish to share the name of my band here. But I am sure I will one day. Anyway, the AI did better than I expected.
2.Creating an HungryMinded themed animation. I already shared this above.
3.Illustrating a song using AI.

4.I used AI to create designs for my RedBubble store.
I created a collection of jungle animals created with MidJourney.AI, here’s an example:
Jungle Party Lemur Pin by HungryMinded
And here’s my store. All the images from the “Welcome to the jungle” collection are created with the assistance of AI. All the other designs so far are not.
Conclusion
This technology is new. And there are a lot of untapped niches you could fill using these tools. Use these creative ways as an inspiration.
