Hey guys, what's up? I hope you're all fun and frolic. Well, since the start of my journey at read.cash, I have been trying to write on some of the most illuminating topics. But today, I've come up with something different; a fascinating story of world's most expensive party. So let's get to work without any further drama.
You may have heard about some of the most lavish, extravagant parties of the century, but I bet you don't know about Iran's most exclusive and expensive party.
The party was in the year 1971 in commemoration of the 2500th birth year of the Persian dynasty, and it lasted for three days. The total worth of the party was estimated to be around 635 million dollars in today's currency rate! That's a lot for three days! No wonder it is the most magnificent party in the world's history.
The party had food and drinks from the best restaurants in the world. There were luxurious suites for each guest which was equipped with all kind of facilities. The party was adorned with the European and French style decor. The guest list had important guests such as the head of the state from 65 countries, kings, queens, emperors, princes, princesses, Sheikhs, Sultans, business tycoons and the richest people from five different continents.
Now, let's go into the details of the party. First, let's talk about the host of the event.
ABOUT THE HOST
The party was hosted in the year 1971 by Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the emperor of Iran. In 1960, Iran was in a miserable state. Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was the ruler of the country at the time. He was the most powerful person in the country and one of the most powerful ruler in the world. He had the power to appoint the Prime Minister, dissolve the parliament, declare a battle, conclude peace and make all decisions regarding the country. He was said to be the richest person in the world.
Mohammad Reza loved the western culture and modern lifestyle. He was fond of modernity and freedom. But ironically, he never gave freedom to his people to raise their voices against the Government. If anyone said anything against him, his secret police force would arrest that person, and he/she would never be seen again. Because of his atrocities, he was addressed as a cruel king. Even the economic state of the country was not pleasant. The Iranians were screaming for help and the country needed new reforms. But the emperor was thinking about throwing the most extravagant party! He thought that the lavish party would make a good impression globally and would raise the lost reputation of the magnificent dynasty.
ABOUT THE VENUE
The preparation started a year before the party. Now, you might think that the venue must have been very luxurious, like a castle or at least a seven or five-star hotel. But no, the party was in the middle of a desert. The venue was Persepolis.
Iran had no proper infra-structure at that time to accommodate such elite people. So, they set up several luxurious tents and covered the dessert with greenery. Thousands of trees and plants were imported and planted there. They even imported 50,000 songbirds from Europe, 20,000 from sparrows from Spain and released them in the newly created forest.
ABOUT THE DECOR ARRANGEMENTS
The emperor hired world-class professionals to build the royal tent city. He had hired the most popular Jansen Company from Paris, who built air-conditioned luxury suites. The place was furnished with modern decor. A total of 50 tents were assembled and each tent was reserved for five people. There were special tents such as the Tent of Honor for the receptions of guests and the Banquet Hall Tent. There was also a central fitted fountain.
ABOUT THE FOOD
Now let's see the food arrangements- Maxims in Paris was the best restaurant in the world at that time. And Shah Mohammad Reza was only looking for the best. So, He signed a deal with Maxims. The restaurant shifted the entire team to Iran 10 days before the party. 2,500 bottles of Champagne, 1,000 bottles of Bordeaux, and 1,000 bottles of burgundy were also imported for the party.
ABOUT THE SECURITY
Elite guests came from all around the world. And so, robust security arrangements were required. The security team consisted of emperor's secret police and his troops. There were approximately 65,000 security members for around a hundred guests. The Iran border was also taken care of. Only the guests were allowed to enter and leave the place.
ABOUT THE DRESSES
French tailors were called to make exclusive designer dresses by using precious gems, diamonds and golden threads. Each dress was worth thousands of dollars. Several makeup artists were also called for the event.
Mohammad Reza also spent millions of dollars on the promotion of the party. He signed contract with national and international media to live broadcast the event to foreign citizens.
THE BIG DAY!
On October 14 1971, the day had finally arrived. The guest list was elaborate. But you can say that almost all important people in the world were present there. From the transportation to their stay, everything was just flawless.
The emperor entered the site with her Empress Farah and Crown Prince Reza. He gave a heartwarming speech. And then, the party started. Everyone enjoyed the party, and the whole world witnessed the greatest party of all time. On 16th of October 1971, everyone flew back to their homeland.
But wait, that's not the end! The party was not appreciated at all by the people of Iran. Even people outside Iran criticised the party. The emperor was pointed out as a money squanderer and showoff. Everyone in Iran started revolting. The leader of the Iranian revolution, Ayatollah Khomeini, stated that several villages and cities in Iran had no hospitals, schools, bathrooms or even clean drinking water. Ayatollah Khomeini was exiled from Iran as he spoke against the emperor.
The consumption of alcohol is prohibited in Iran. So, the people were stunned when they discovered the amount of alcohol consumed at the party. People were low-cut and revealing dresses at the party. Several things that were forbidden in the country were allowed in the party. The emperor tried to justify his actions, but all in vain. He had lost all trust and support of his people. He was exiled in Egypt and passed away after a year.
After that, Ayatollah Khomeini returned to Iran. The country became the Islamic Republic. As soon as the Pahlavi dynasty fell, the country saw remarkable growth in the economy, education and industrialization.
