When the pandemic began, transactions and other activities have used the online platforms. Online Grocery, Online class, Online Church, Online selling and even Online Cock-Fighting (Online Sabong) have become popular.
Yesterday, our city hosted an Online Sabong of which the City LGU stated in their press statement that it is licensed event under Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). They further emphasized that Public Safety personnel were there to ensure that health protocols are strictly observed. However, this event got many negative views and opinions from the masses. It is clear in our current province-wide executive order that cockfighting and other forms of gambling are prohibited. Online cockfighting I think is not an exception to this order, but why is it allowed by the local government. For money? for the economy?
Now, the citizens expressed their disappointments to the government for allowing this kind of activity when in fact the active cases of the city is increasing each day. City people are posting in social media "MATIrang MATIbay". To date, the number of active cases is 562, as posted in the FB page of the City of Mati LGU. The isolation facilities are now full that even my mother-in-law is just allowed to have a Home Isolation provided that she will not go outside the house and that she is alone.
The event has reminded the people of the deaths brought about by Covid-19 to those who attended the Matina Cockfight Derby last year. The cockfighting event had infected many and many are hoping that it will not happen again. The fear is there, what if that surge will happen again? there are 200 plus entries for the said derby which means that there were many people involved.
Now, let's just hope that all protocols are really followed because according to some eyewitnesses, there are many people in the gallera and some are not following the health protocols. Now, let's wait for the next days if there will no cockfighting related cases, because if that would really happen, the government is also accountable.
Closing thoughts
I know that the government approves to this kind of activities for some economic reasons but I hope that their decisions will not put the community in compromise. The health of the people should be a priority and should not be disregarded. In this time of rising cases number of cases in the city, the citizens and the government should work hand and hand.
How about you? What is your take on Online Cockfighting?
Home Quarantine Update
We are now almost 2 weeks in Home Quarantine, and the Barangay Health worker called us that we will sign an "agreement" but until now, they have not given us. I don't know exactly which date is to be followed for the quarantine, My Mom's or Chelle's. Most of our time are spent for taking care of the kids and doing house chores. Each day is our bonding day, and my kids are happy that we are just at home.
Chelle is getting fine, she don't have cough anymore. She will soon be out of the isolation facility. My mother-in-law is having an home isolation only, someone brings her ready made foods or foods to cook. Everyday she has video calls with her "apos". I know she missed them so much, she was the one who took care of them since they were babies. She will have until next week for quarantine.
Again thanks for all your prayers and well wishes for us. We value it a lot. With God's love and grace, we are surviving and will survive this pandemic.
